Editorial Reviews

Review

“New work may not be as rare as it once was in U.S. regional theatre, but one festival that has championed the form for almost half a century remains an essential launch pad for up-and-coming theatremakers. The Humana Festival of New American Plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville has just finished its 43rd year and stands as one of the longest running and most prestigious events in the U.S.” ―Howard Sherman, The Stage

“The 43rd annual Humana Festival of New American Plays asked its audiences to traverse boundaries with care, presence and daring. This provocation was thrilling, and the response it brought forth was formidable... Whether it’s the draw of a celebration with the country’s most incredible new voices, the chance to see excellent new work first, or the opportunity to engage with provocative panels...Humana sets the bar for what a new play festival can offer to its local and national community.” ―Kate Bergstrom, Santa Barbara Independent

“The Humana Festival is moving from strength to strength with an intriguing and adventurous mix of provocative plays from voices known and unknown.” ―Marty Rosen, Louisville Eccentric Observer

“While familiar stories...make up much of today’s theatrical landscape, Louisville’s Humana Festival of New American Plays offers something different: five brand-new works, impeccably produced and featuring top on- and off-stage talent. No wonder professionals and patrons from around the world attend each year.” ―Lou Harry, Indianapolis Monthly
