After working with a young child that owned this book I’ve purchased multiple for family and friends with children! Its detailed images and descriptions of how homes function using water systems, electricity, wires and energy is unlike any other I’ve found! The books arrived just two days after ordering and I intend to purchase more in the near future to keep in my classroom!

Great book for a little guy who is fascinated by how everything in the home works.

5.0 out of 5 stars great introduction, spurs good discussions

A wonderful book to explain to kids how electricity and water get to your house. It has very engaging illustrations and mostly clear explanations. It includes a page on wastewater treatment and discusses renewable energy sources. There is a page about natural gas but it is somewhat less clear. The last page is about conserving energy and water at home. My five year old finds this book very interesting though it is a little over his head. Although it is not mentioned in the book, the topic offers an opportunity to discuss people who do not have running water, electricity, and natural gas. My son found that hard to imagine and we discussed how people in other circumstances get water, light, heat, and fire.We own two other books in this series "How Did That Get in My Lunchbox" and "Where Do My Clothes Come From" and they are also excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book.

We love every book in this series. Although this is called "How does my HOME work," it is really about household utilities such as water and electricity. My daughter especially likes the sections on water. She's really into learning about how things work. This book is appropriate for ages 3-8. The art is bright and compelling, the explanations are understandable for even very little kids, and the topic is fascinating for all ages. Can't wait to see what they come out with next-- I hope it is either about manufacturing of everyday items or how homes are constructed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for curious kids

My son is 3 and wants to know how everything in the house works (specifically plumbing)! This book is perfect! It’s not too in depth so that young kids can comprehend, but I think it would be perfect for older kids as well. I love the diagrams and illustrations.

Everyone of every age (that doesn’t already understand the workings of a home) should read this. It is awesome — explains how electricity comes into your home, how we get our water in our faucets, etc. Great pictures, great explanations, very educational and fun.

This is exactly the book I was looking for to explain the inner workings of a home to my child. Clear drawings with colours and very informative! It also dives into water and energy which is helpful. I keep it in the resource section of my kid's library, so we can keep going back to it.

Waldorf Class 3 (Shelters Main Lesson Book)

O.S. · June 30, 2024

I am planning for the school year ahead (2024/2025) with my 9 years old son starting class 3 in Waldorf Education and therefore having a Main Lesson Block coming on Shelters/homes. This is a great book to end the unit in my opinion with "Modern Homes" helping our children understand how a home works (electricity, sanitation, etc.)I am planning to get the other books in the series in'sha'Allah (where food comes from and the other about clothes) as the other units are touching on those subjects.Of course, add living books to that and lots of handwork/hands-on activities. However, this series is great to have at home for the child to read independently and satisfy his/her curiosity.
