my dad got me this book and it is a very good and interesting book but there are aren't many illustrations so if you don't learn well without pictures or anything like that then this book is probably not for you but still it explains stuff in a very engaging way and is written well so I recommend it thank you

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Way To Learn A Complex Subject- Marine Biology

C. · October 19, 2025

This book is an easy read and makes complicated facts available to the novice. No color so you will need the internet for photos but the basic are here and accessible. I am using the companion journal to make notes and reenforce my reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well written, but complete lack of illustration

G. · March 17, 2021

I love the language used in this book. Simple to understand, explains well the characteristics of every phylla/class of animals. However, I would generally not recommend this book, as the complete lack of pictures and illustration makes this read less engaging, and does necessitate frequent referrals to Google. A great pity because the writing was otherwise fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars My son loves this book

N.b. · April 28, 2024

I bought this book for my son (14) who is interested in becoming a Marine Biologist when he grows up. He was very interested in this book. It answered a lot of questions he had and kept his attention as well. Very happy with my purchase.

If you’re interested in marine biology I HIGHLY recommend this book. It’s an easy read and very informational.

structure missing

A. · June 4, 2022

indeed an introduction into biology. but what I really miss is a bit of structure. It reeds like a pack of statements and funny facts (like the incredible ocean book from the same author - sometimes even the same text), but what is the pedagocal idea behind it? the first chapters describe some different genera. Interesting but why not start with an introduction or some sort of overview? then the author jumps to coral reefs, thermal vents and polar sea environments. Ok, and in the polar chapter also some mammals and birds are described, but why only the polar specific ones? aren't they also part of the other marine ecosystems around the globe? Oh and somewhere inbetween there is a chapter about toxins.. ?It feels like the author just wrote down all that he knows from his experience (quite impressive I must say), but this is only part of what marine biology is about. So a lot is not described, and it leaves the reader (at least me) with a lot of question marks ...

The copy that I have received it bound with the cover upside-down and the pages back-to-front

K.T. · December 21, 2023

As titled. I have not read it so this comment applies to the condition of the product as received. It is readable - if one abandons the convention in English text of reading from front to back
