My 7 year old son loves this! It has great puzzles and activities. Some of the puzzles are a bit tricky, and I occasionally need to explain them, but he enjoys the challenge. This book is very well done with a variety of activities and a fun theme for kids.

Bought this for my 8 (soon to be 9) year old Minecraft-loving grandson. He's an average to just-above-average student in school and doesn't really like the typical reading, writing, math activity books, but this one, having the Minecraft twist, has intrigued him. After receiving it as an Easter present, he did not pick it up on his own and start working on it - it took me sitting down with him, asking him to choose a page and read the directions out loud, and then me giving a summary of what that page required in order to get to the end result, for him to start on the adventure. I was there to guide him or clarify something, as needed, but allowed him to take the lead, and even sometimes make a mistake that would need correcting before the answer could be revealed, or the code broken, etc. Many of the activities in this book draw upon higher level thinking, deductive reasoning, and other strategies that challenge the typical kid, but in a good way and keeps their attention because of the underlying Minecraft "reward" that gets discovered at the end. I find it interesting how the reading, writing, and math skills are still there and practiced, but almost in a hidden way that doesn't turn off my grandson. The wide variety of activity types, many not found in your typical workbooks, is also good and keeps his interest. In fact, the last time we sat down with this book, 2 hours just seemed to fly by! My grandson now reaches for the book on his own sometimes and works independently, but also still knows that if he gets stumped or confused, adult help is nearby. I'd chalk this up as a win, especially when the draw to TV and computer/tablet entertainment is a tough competition to defeat with printed materials. The creators of the Minecraft activity books have successfully figured a way to marry a popular interest with engaging activities in a printed format that strengthens learning and skill development for the mid-to-upper elementary level and tween kids. Nice job!

Kid loved it
Exactly as pictured. My 9 year old found this as a great way to pass the time. Lots of puzzles are just themed but there are a good few activities that you do need to know some Minecraft information.
