“A must read...An essential tool for preparing effective, interesting and "sexy" presentations...a must read for any professional who wants to improve his communicational skills.” ~ Rosalinda Scalia

“The lessons shared in this short book will a go a long way to helping a person give better public presentations. The insights shared by Akash are like golden nuggets in a river full of info!” ~ Alan Portugal

“I have been teaching workshops at universities and Fortune 500 Campuses up and down the East Coast on building better presentations. Akash hits all the right notes in this book. A must read for anyone wanting to build powerful presentations.” ~ David Bishop

“Excellent for those who want to really engage their audience. I incorporated many of the principles within and developed a more effective product presentation.” ~ Tom Tipps

“Right on the mark. Just what I was looking for as a non-designer.” ~ Erik J. Zettelmayer

“Make a greater impact with your presentations. While reading this book I was mentally reviewing my talks where I use PowerPoint slides. I am now changing some of those slides to make a greater impact on the listeners. These tips are easy to implement and make sense.” ~ John C. Erdman

“As always we can expect the best from Akash and we are getting more.” ~ Payam Bahrampoor

“This book gives practical advice. However, it does not stop there. It demonstrates how to use that advice, gives visual examples of what to do and what not to do and explains why. It turns creating a presentation from a dreaded event to one allowing creativity to flow and your passion about your subject matter to emerge on the screen through your slides.” ~ Pandora Training and Consulting

“I will admit to rarely reviewing books. However, this book was such a step above any others I've read on the art of PowerPoint presentations, I had to give it a five star review.” ~ David Schwind

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful, short overview of how to present a good talk using great slides

A.M. · February 25, 2016

Really good, short and to the point introduction to using PowerPoint effectively. This is NOT a technical manual; there are a couple of "how to" pointers, which were very helpful, but the point of the book is not "how to do it" but "what to do!"Thus he gives lots of pointed tips: use high resolution pictures, make them fill the screen. Use as few words as possible, and limit your slides to one idea per slide. Don't be afraid of graphics...but son't go crazy either. In the end, made me rethink some of the PowerPoint slides I use. Next talk, I will definitely be recipe signing my slide presentation.

5.0 out of 5 stars New tricks for an old dog.

All good stuff. I have suffered through hundreds of presentations and hundreds of people have suffered through my presentations. This book will go a long way to alleviating the suffering of my audiences in future presentations I will give.I don't aspire to giving TED talks, but I am called upon to give technical presentations and I fully intend to upgrade my technique with the info in this book. This book is very well laid out and the language is simple and to the point. It is very easy to understand and the advice all seems to be very sound to an old presenter.

3.0 out of 5 stars far better books available explaining graphics design and illustrative speaking

"Death by PowerPoint" is a reality and in spite of all that's been written and said, it continues to be inflicted on audiences every day. This book will perhaps do it's part in trying to prevent that, but it leaves out the key ingredient--the purpose of those slides is illustrative. Too many speakers believe their PowerPoint is their presentation. Having read another book by the same author, I'm left feeling that he is "exploiting" TED talks to sell his products and services as a speaker and coach. There are, frankly, far better books available explaining graphics design and illustrative speaking. I purchased this one because I'm a huge fan of TED talks and hoped the book would reflect the "TED quality." It did not nor did itconvince me I should hire the author if I'm ever invited to give a TED Talk... most of the "tips" are very basic in nature. The book would also benefit from some editing and organization--not to mention that explaining the use of color in black and white print seems a bit... odd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Using powerpoint/keynote or any visual device? this book can really save you tones of time

R.R. · February 13, 2015

I had picked up this book because I wanted some clarity on using power point slides. I am not new to public speaking. However, I am not a big fan of powerpoint presentations. But, I have been using this book as a goto guide when I have any doubts in using powerpoint. I have recommended this book to many people because I believe that Akash has distilled necessary information in simple and easy to understand manner. I really loved the examples he showed and impact it can create. I am not a big fan of 'rah rah' and Akash's style is not 'rah rah' as well. I am leaving this review so that it will help you make an informed decision. If you are using powerpoint/keynote or any visual device - this book can really save you tones of time and make your life easier.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, great tips, great examples

5.0 out of 5 stars Great preperation for giving a TED talk

P.B. · March 19, 2016

This is the second book that I have read from the author about giving TED talks. I loved both books and the guide to the slides in this book was well worth the investment. The author provided a lot of great information through links and examples and was very helpful in my own preparation to give a Ted talk. I highly recommend adding this book to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do you present anything? If you do, you need this

C. · June 16, 2014

Man did I have this wrong before. I always started with the PowerPoint slides ... wrong! That's the last thing we need to do. If your audience can't understand the entire concept from the slide in 3 seconds, it doesn't belong. If you put words on slides, why do they need you? They can read it, and they don't need you. So tell stories.Great book with lots of guidance so you'll always sound and look like a TED Talk expert. Wish I'd had it 20 years ago.

Useful and practical overview

M.J.F.B. · June 21, 2018

I have read several books on creating engaging and effective slides for public speaking and I’ve been speaking professionally for about three years, so I know most of the theory and practice. I found this book easy to read, logical, practical and accessible. Akash has a nice tone that is neither condescending, nor lofty, and because the book is relatively short, I now carry it in my rucksack as a useful reference guide for when I’m on the go and want to create slides in between gigs.
