This is a compelling debut novel by Shanora Williams that offers a nuanced exploration of friendship dynamics. The narrative skillfully examines a complex relationship rooted in deep emotional connections and subtle character imperfections, resulting in a suspenseful storyline with unexpected plot developments that consistently challenge the reader's perceptions. This will not be my last reading of this author s work..
5.0 out of 5 stars RECOMMENDED READ. Thank me later :D.
AMAZING thriller. I finish this book within 3 days. When I say I could not put the book down. I downloaded this on my Kindle App on my iPad. Every page I read, I wanted to know what comes next. I did not suspect the ending to be the ending and was just wowed. Definitely going to give Shanora's other books a try. Recommended read for October!
3.0 out of 5 stars Average Book
I think I read too many thrillers, because this book felt like every other thriller books I've read before- nothing extra or exciting brought to the table. I liked the multiple POV (Rose's and then Eve's diary entries) and it definitely held the story together nicely. I think the whole point of Eve having a sister was to motivate Rose to look into Eve's disappearance, she brought nothing else to the story otherwise. I was not really wowed with the reveal, and the entire ending was just alright. For me, three star ratings are average and it doesn't mean the book was bad.
4.0 out of 5 stars plot twist
Whispers of the Lake is a twisty, emotionally charged thriller that keeps you guessing. Rose, a successful journalist, is struggling in her personal life when her former best friend Eve disappears from a secluded lake cottage. Despite their fallout, Rose sets out to uncover what happened and walks into a small town filled with secrets, lies, and danger.I loved the eerie setting, the complexity of the characters, and the fast pace. Eve’s journal entries added depth and suspense, while the emotional tension between the two women gave the mystery real heart. The final twist wasn’t earth shattering, but it tied the story together nicely and kept me engaged until the end.
5.0 out of 5 stars Will the lake give the answer
Oh, we all have that friend that we can't handle, and we distance ourselves from them. Yet when something happens to that friend, we drop everything to help them. This is the story of Rose and her friend Eve.Eve is a travel vlogger. She and Rose grew up together and were best friends, until Rose caught Eve is a strange circumstance. This becomes the last straw for Rose and she distances herself from Eve. Eve's sister calls frantic one day because she has not heard from her in a while; this causes Rose to investigate what has happened to her friend. The investigation leads Rose to a small town and some strange people. Everyone feels like a suspect in Eve's disappearance. Many blocks are placed in Rose's way but she still powers on looking for her lost friend.Eve also leaves clues in her journal but will Rose discover what has happened to Eve before sometime happens to her? Whispers of the Lake is a page turner, and who you think may have done something to Eve on one page, the next chapter, you may have a new suspect. This is one of the best crime thrillers I have read this quarter.Reasons I enjoyed this book:Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Page-turner, Twisted, Unpredictable, Wonderful characters
4.0 out of 5 stars Another Solid Shanora Williams Hit!
Shanora Williams did it again! She created some serious heat with this one.I enjoyed this book. I felt that in ways the book was more than a mystery than a psychological thriller. But, most times both play hand and hand. I believe this was Mrs. Williams' intention. 😀The book, to me, felt like a slow burn, which is okay because it was needed. We all needed to know and understand the characters and all of their quirks. I thought Mrs. Williams did this flawlessly.I would recommend others to read WHISPERS OF THE LAKE. It's campy, creepy, and wickedly good!I can't wait to read the next Shanora Williams thriller!
5.0 out of 5 stars SMH crazy
This book had so many twist and turns that I just made you say: I give up 🤦🏾♀️ Eve suffered so much pain and trauma as a child that she let it affect her as an adult. She became the envy and jealous friend to Rose. Eve was the type of person “if I’m not happy no one else will be happy” 😡 Now there was good old Rose who just had to be the friend who cared about everyone around her and play captain save a friend. Eve would had to stay missing once you told me I was going to some crazy backwoods small town. Girl get somebody else to do it 🤣
