“Excellent… The ingredients — adultery, fake identities, ulterior motives, forgery, plagiarism, rough sex, unusual chapter breaks, a little murder thrown in here and there — are enticing, and Donlea tells a propulsive tale.” —The New York Times
“[Plot lines] merge seamlessly into a surprise ending that I didn’t see coming. Author Charlie Donlea has an easy readable style and skillfully adds depth and intrigue to this enjoyable thriller.” —Mystery Scene
“Breathtaking pacing and clever plot twists.” —Publishers Weekly
“A clever look at fugitive(s), journalism, and loyalty. A fun read and satisfying ending with a dangling moral issue.” —Daniel Island News

“A great plot that incorporates family, lifelong friendship, betrayal, and the specter of 9/11…deep with several sub-plots that keep you guessing about how it will all come together. The ending is very unexpected on several fronts. Any good crime and mystery fan will enjoy this book.” —The Southern Booksellers Review
“An entertaining thriller…surprises lurking around every corner.” —Kirkus Reviews
“Probably the most complex and morally satisfying novel that Donlea has written thus far. Here, he deftly utilizes 9/11 to pinpoint a moment in time that is necessary to the plot while not in any way using the tragedy to manipulate the feelings of readers…Donlea subtly moves away from the 9/11 tragedy and makes his story more about the present-day characters as they battle to find the truth through a sea of lies and false accusations.” —Bookreporter

The way Donlea ties together a decades-old crime with present-day investigations makes for a layered and compelling story. The pacing is excellent, with each chapter revealing just enough to keep the intrigue building. I especially enjoyed how the dual timelines were handled, allowing the reader to slowly piece together the truth alongside the characters. Donlea’s writing shines in the detailed and well-thought-out twists that take the story in unexpected directions without feeling forced. What sets this book apart is its depth of character development. The main character is not only trying to solve a mystery but also confronting her own personal demons, which adds an emotional element to the suspense. 5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating!!!
Twenty Years Later is quite possibly Charlie Donlea at his best. This story grips you right from page one and it had me convinced I needed to keep reading just to know what was coming next. I loved the characters, loved the intrigue, and loved the way it all played out. Definitely worth the read!!
Absolutely brilliant!
This was my first ever read of a Charlie Donlea book, and it sure won’t be my last! With unexpected plot twists and turns, it was impossible to put down until knowing how the whole mystery and story ended, aided by a great but flawed heroine with a mysterious past and a brooding but hot-as-Hades former detective. All the ingredients were there for an absolutely brilliant and compelling read.

Excellent book
I really enjoyed this book.Initially I thought it was not going to be to my liking when it set the scene. However, it got me in and throughout the book I kept thinking about the different scenarios and what really happened. Of course, there was a twist and great twist.First time I have by Charlie Donlea and I will certainly look forward to reading other books written by him.
Another inventive thriller
Charlie Donlea is a favorite of mine, and has been ever since I read Summit Lake years ago. The premise of this novel takes some time to come fully into focus, as the narrative switches between two crimes spaced twenty years apart. September 11th is utilized as a primary plot device in one of the cases, and I found Donlea’s handling of it thoughtful and respectful. It’s also one heck of a clever twist that keeps on giving throughout the story. As always, the author has a lot going on in this book, all of which he juggles well and ties up brilliantly. There are times in a Donlea novel when I feel as if there’s maybe too much going on, but I’ve learned to trust him; in the end it’s all necessary and enriches the book. If you appreciate excellent writing, imaginative plot twists, and rich characterization, you’ll enjoy Twenty Years Later.
The end is a surprise
The plot is well crafted, but at times I found it too slow and was almost tempted to skip ahead. Liked the last chapters in the book, the twists were nice.
