This is a great book if you're looking to get into throwing at the Highland Games. The book includes a detailed breakdown of all movements and positions of each event with corresponding pictures from two different angles. Also included are descriptions of drill for various events and examples of practice schedules.I had spent hours scouring the internet and local library for guidance on these techniques and ended up with only a fraction of the information that is in this book. I wish I had found this book sooner and spent that time practicing.

Easy reading, a lot of detail and explanation of the throws and training. The photos help greatly with regards to the steps of each throw. I wish Matt would make an accompanying DVD to go with it.

Being a new masters thrower, and wanting to get into the Highland Games, there are very few resources out there. Matt's book explains the nuances of the throws - with pictures - and is a perfect resource for anyone wanting to get into the Highland Games. Paired up with Training Lab, it makes a perfect 1-2 punch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rare Training Guide - well written

H.I.R. · June 6, 2015

A rare training guide for the HIghland Games. Mr. Vincent explains clearly why he believes as he does about each exercise and has thought out a yearlong training schedule - don't know this could be found in any other single publication. A gem. If I was to nitpick, I'd say the personal philosophy/prologue to the training was too long, but think that also might be my bias - just want to get to the exercise, and he delivers on the routine, the importance and application of each exercise and organizes it into a training schedule. On my reference shelf and frequently taken down for checking my understanding. Thank you, Mr. Vincent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Throw far. Don’t suck.

Great book that covers the basic details you should know before entering your first Highland games.

Great for learning the Highland Games heavy events.

T.J. · August 9, 2020

Detailed instructions for throwing, much better than the Contrarian Approach to Throwing book, which doesn't really give you anything for technique other than some high-level guidance. Matt could use a good editor but otherwise a very worthwhile purchase.

Helpful book.
