About the Author

Ben Hoare is an award-winning journalist who has written and edited many natural-history books and magazines for DK, the BBC, London's Natural History Museum, and many others. Think of a well-known wildlife or nature writer who writes in English, and Ben has probably edited their words at some point. Since 2008 he has been Features Editor of BBC Wildlife Magazine. In 2015 Ben was awarded the Dilys Breese Medal for science communication by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO)--he is one of only 15 people to hold the award.

Ever want to know....more?More about the sea creatures, the land animals, the flying birds and the tiny bugs?Well look no farther, because this book is the right one for you!I absolutely loved all of the unique facts and exciting blurbs about the animals.It's so incredibly fun (even for me, as an adult!) to learn about the animals that inhabit our earth."A tiny lantern shark could fit in an adult's hand and can glow in the dark, while a whale shark is as large as a truck, but eats nothing bigger than a shrimp."And that's not to mention the GORGEOUS illustrations.I really, truly believe that the illustrations of a book is a HUGE make-or-break moment. And this makes it. It makes it perfect.Angela Rizza and Daniela Terrazzini do an absolutely amazing job with this book.Every time I turned the page, I was stunned - absolutely stunned - by the beautiful images and photographs decorating it."In the cool of the night, hippos leave the water to munch grass, moving around like herds of giant lawn mowers."This is quite possibly one of the most perfect books ever.Though, if I could provide a suggestion - I would LOVE to see one of these for every continent. This is our second book from the series. The first one is Wonders of Nature which we (me and 7 year old daughter) know by heart by now.This one is focused on animals and is great as well! We read it everyday and purchased several for her friends' birthdays too!It doesn't have a ton of text, only the most important information on each species. Gorgeous illustrations as usual.

The pictures are fabulous and the information is interesting. Got it for my 7 yr old who loves the pictures but my ten yr old can read the book and likes it. Also good for use with projects about animals with unusual ones too. This is a great gift.

I bought several of the books in this series for my 7 year old niece. I love the cover designs because they look “fairytale-ish” and girly. My niece is learning to read and loves nature. She keeps all 3 books on her nightstand and has enjoyed going through every page and sounding out the names of each one. The information about each species/animal is very good and just enough to learn but not too much to keep their attention. If you have a child in your life that has every toy and you want to get them something that won’t clutter up their parents house and will serve a purpose then this is it. The pages are thick and images are beautiful!! Just buy the books you won’t regret it.

I bought this for my 6 year old Granddaughter and her teacher texted and said when she brought it to school to share with the class she decided to buy one too!I liked it so much I bought another for my other 4 year old Granddaughter. The pictures are beautiful and descriptiions aren’t too long!

If I could give this book 6 stars, I would. I’ve had it saved on one of my lists to buy for quite some time. Well, I saw it on sale for $11 which is the lowest I’ve ever seen and just had to buy. I gave it to my sons for Christmas and they ask me every day to read it to them. At first, they didn’t seem that interested so I was like, oh well, it will just be a coffee table book because it looks so nice. But then they took an interest in it after a few days and they haven’t stopped. We go to the table of contents in the front and they pick one of the small pictures, then we flip to that page. Because of that, I feel like it’s so kid friendly but also perfect for adults too. I will for sure be purchasing the other books in this series.
