5.0 out of 5 stars I've memorized it because my son loves to read it so much.

R. · February 10, 2022

This is such a fantastic addition to any library. Great pictures and really helpful for a mom of a toddler who loves trucks and machines. Now I know the difference between a skid steer, backhoe, and excavator (among others). My sons LOVE this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent potty training entertainment

M. · September 28, 2014

A little boy's potty training dream... I plant this book on a little table in front of the toilet and it keeps my little guy entertained for as long as needed. He gets so excited about the pictures and all the variety in the vehicles. The descriptions of what each vehicle is and does are advanced for a toddler, but the labeled names of some key parts are helpful for talking about the vehicle with him. I expect this book will be a favorite for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Little guy is obsessed: conversation starter and vocabulary builder, too!

A.f.l. · May 8, 2013

Our little guy received this book as a gift before he was born. He became fascinated with it by around age 14 months, but by 20 months had destroyed it (it's big, so the paper pages are hard for less experienced readers to turn!). We bought him a new copy for his second birthday and he has happily embraced it like an old friend.Every open pair of pages is themed: "On the Water," "In the Air," "In the City," and the like, with photographed groups of colorful vehicles for each setting scattered appealingly around the entire space. Across the bottom runs a tiny stylized frieze of vehicles in context (driving on roads, sailing on water) in much more muted colors. Our son likes to hunt for pictures in the frieze that match the ones up above. There is text in this book that would likely be good "interesting facts" reading for an older child, but the real star of the show is the collection of bright, sharp, detailed photos that (as another reviewer has pointed out) distinguish DK publications. Even very small children can enjoy identifying a blue van, a red car, a taxi, a bus--and they can then have increasingly detailed conversations about the images as they get older. (We have been looking recently at ways that a fire chief's car is different from a police car, for example.)We also have the DK "See How I Go" books, the thin, affordable little paperbacks designed around a theme like "Cars" or "Trains." They barely get any attention with this one in the house--this individual book provides literally hours of entertainment for a transit-obsessed child. I only wish there were a smaller or board-book edition so that it would be more portable. You won't be dropping this one in your bag to go anywhere. It's large enough to serve breakfast on--but for small children, that's probably part of its charm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for young kids

My 4-year-old nephew can't get enough of this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars My son is obsessed with this book

j. · February 9, 2008

I am another parent who has to buy a second copy of this book because my young toddler has destroyed his first copy by looking at it and carrying it around day and night. One caveat for those with small children, and one for those with older ones: the names of many of the things that go are long and complicated for little ones to learn; and the book was written for a British market, so some of the names, items and vehicles are not equivalent to the American ones (many examples of this on the "Emergency Vehicles" pages), which I imagine older boys may find confusing or irritating. But overall, it's the pictures that they'll love and keep coming back to, not the words. I'm constantly amazed at how my son's interest in this book never flags. Myself, I am heartily sick of it. But here I am on Bolo buying another copy, and was amused to see that so many other parents had had to do the same -- and it's not a badly constructed book! It has a hard cover and good-quality pages. They've just had to take a lot of punishment, and our copy's now made more of tape than of paper...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!

J. · February 7, 2022

My vehicle-obsessed toddler is in love with this book - it has become a new staple. I didn’t realize the dimensions of the book when I purchased it, but my son loves how BIG it is! The cover is also slightly textured which he thinks is awesome. The book categorizes vehicles on each page spread (farm, roadwork, in the sky, etc), which makes it easy for him to find something specific, and easy to learn the groupings and what the machines are used for. Two thumbs up!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome book for a truck loving boy

M. · January 3, 2013

My son, 2.5 years old, got this book about 6 months ago. He really loves it.We don't read it cover to cover - too long - but we pick sections to look at the pictures and read the captions. The pictures are great, and we get interesting facts about the various vehicles.I can see that this book will last for many years as he gets older and learns to read it for himself.Glad I got it for him!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great info but large in size

E.W. · July 21, 2020

Lots of great vehicles. I’m giving only 4 stars bc the extra large size of the book itself makes it hard for my 2.5 year old to read it on his own unless he’s on the floor. Still an enjoyable book though.

This book is huge!

E. · June 7, 2019

Lovely photos in the book, my son absolutely loves it. Thought the price tags was steep but actually once received I thought it was well worth it.

2 Year Old loves it!

D.W. · February 26, 2014

My 2 year old son absolutely loves this book and will often chose to read it with one of us. It would be amazing if they bought out a UK version with a hackney cab (instead of a yellow cab) and UK fire engines and ambulances but it's still a great book regardless.
