Ruckus (Sinners of Saint, 2)

Description:

"...I live for you. I breathe for you. I will die for you. It. Has. Always. Been. You."

No one has ever made Rosie LeBlanc feel more alive than the man who serves as a constant reminder that her clock is ticking. Dean Cole is her forbidden, shiny apple. A stubborn fallacy against her blunt, raw truth. Because Rosie has an illness. Cystic fibrosis. Sometimes she conquers it, but sometimes it conquers her. She knows she's more than her diagnosis, but she also knows she will not live a long, happy life with it. And the last thing she wants to do is start a relationship she knows is doomed to end in tragedy.

Least of all with her sister's ex-boyfriend.

But the truth is, Rosie saw Dean first. She craved him first. She loved him first. And now, eleven years later, he's come waltzing back into her life, demanding a second chance. He sees her walls, and he's determined to smash them down, even with his own demons at play.

He wants to be Rosie's white knight, whatever it takes…but he might just be too late.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Perfection!

S.T. · May 24, 2017

Reviewed by Sharon ThérèseShen has nailed it! Beautifully written words at the very beginning of the novel would eventually make sense to me, and the first paragraph of the prologue which was not how I would expect a novel to start, left me speechless. But I liked it. A lot. From there on in, it was a matter of how fast I could read without missing out on the tiniest detail of Dean ‘Ruckus’ Cole and Rosie LeBlanc’s story. So hold on tight for a very bumpy ride because the author unravels their story at a dramatically heart-stopping pace. By the time I reached the epilogue, I felt like I'd been chewed up and spat out, and whether I was put back together or not is for you to find out!In Vicious, I didn't get to see Dean's true colours. He hasn't changed much in the respect that he's still an a-one jerk, spoilt and full of himself. But one thing is for sure, he's a natural protector, unarguably patient and a hot-panty-dropping-problem-solver. He never once contradicted himself. He's not only aware of his traits, but he also lives up to them...even puts on a show if you like. All his shortcomings are revealed in Ruckus and if I mentioned more of them, the list would be longer than my arm!The author never gave me reason to think he'd change his ways, or make an effort to abstain from his vices and just when I thought all was lost, she offered me a smidgen of hope. Shen’s storytelling tactics glowed when she gave snippets of Dean's backstory in moments of either angst or when the reader least expected it. Despite my eagerness to know more, he wasn't in the slightest bit forthcoming regarding what he'd been through. In due course, the whole truth was revealed leaving me in a blubbering mess. Regardless of his imperfections, this guy whose persistence seemed endless won my heart.I adored Rosie. She made me laugh, she made me cry but I couldn’t feel sorry for her. Compassion was the last thing she wanted. A few of the characters’ attitude towards my heroine was difficult for me to comprehend. All I could see before my eyes; yes, Shen’s narrative writing is beyond descriptive, was a strong-willed young woman that only asked for her space to be respected. I couldn't believe how unfair and single-minded they were. Humiliating her in one scenario made me so frustrated and so damn angry, I cried. (She didn't!). Rosie-bug’s inner-strength never ceased to amaze me. She outshone all the characters in the Sinners of Saint series because she never gave up on anyone at anytime and more important, was totally honest with herself. This isn't your typical love-hate-love-story. Dean and Rosie have known each other for years but both avoid soul-searching questions. Since Shen made me wait for the answers; and by now I should have known that she would, to get to crux of the matter meant speed reading. However, in parts of the book I had to slow down and even re-read because I couldn't believe what was happening. The sensitivity used in one of the issues squeezed my heart, the other didn't worry me at all. Albeit some readers may consider the second mentioned blameworthy, it exists and I had no reason to see why the two protagonists couldn't make it work. Only there's that one damn handicap hanging over their fragile relationship, constantly breathing down their necks. Now for the banter! Goodness me, I'm not exaggerating by saying it's pure dynamite, risqué and pushing boundaries. In some scenes I even felt like an intruder. Dean’s also given a new meaning to the word innuendo and Rosie’s faster than lightening comebacks had me laughing my head off. I freaking well love how the Hotholes pulled together, and Vicious impressing me is an understatement! Of course, how could he not mellow with Rosie’s sister by his side! It's been a long while since a book of this calibre has crossed my emotional threshold. Dean and Rosie's story affected me so much that I had to sit back and seriously ponder over what I'd read after finishing it. This just goes to show you how much I freaking well loved it! Ooh, and the hot-steaminess on the verge of erotic is simply off charts! Bravo Ms Shen!

4.0 out of 5 stars Baby Leblanc

T.H. · September 22, 2025

Ruckus follows Dean Cole and Rosie LeBlanc, or as he calls her, "Baby Leblanc." Yes, Rosie is Emilia's sister from book 1, Vicious. There is a forbidden element to this pairing, as Dean is Emilia's ex boyfriend from high school. One thing I did appreciate about Ruckus is that their teenage years were not such a big part of this book as they were in Vicious. Dean is a member of the "Hot Holes," and I find the name of their group ridiculous. Just as Barron's alias was Vicious, I believe Ruckus was Dean's. (I'm not 100% certain about that, though).Rosie has cystic fibrosis, a condition that affects her lungs and means she has to be diligent about her health (and knowing her body's limits).A large part of the book focuses on Rosie, her complicated history with her family, her health and history with Dean. Aside from his obsession with Rosie, Dean hardly felt like a character until closer to the end. I was pretty bored with him and just didn't really feel the chemistry between him and Rosie. The plot, especially in the last 1/3 of the book was very well written and full of tension and I flew through it. I love how the author had me reevaluating my opinion on many of the characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've found a new author I love!!!

D.H. · June 24, 2017

When Ruckus released last month, I saw a ton of good reviews for it. I had never read L.J. Shen's books before, so I decided to give Ruckus a try. I downloaded it, but couldn't get to it right away. This week, I was feeling a bit of a book hangover and decided to start Ruckus. I'm really happy I did. I have found a new author I'm excited to read more from.Rosie LeBlanc has felt a connection to Dean "Ruckus" Cole ever since she first met his glare in high school. She knew Dean was the one for her at that moment. Sadly, a relationship with him wasn't in the cards. Dean was her sister's boyfriend, and that made him off-limits even after they broke up. Now, year's later, Dean's back in Rosie's life. They live in the same building, and no matter how hard Rosie tries to avoid Dean, she always runs into him and his harem. His blunt cockiness and womanizing ways should make Dean the least desirable guy, but when Rosie's sister's wedding requires them to spend time together, she can't help but be drawn further into his web.I loved L.J. Shen's writing style. It's a little bit dark and a whole lot gritty. I love that she gives a voice to both the male and female main characters. The first person dual points of view are raw and emotion filled. Her characters are alpha males and strong females who won't step down from a fight. They have something traumatic that pulls them together, while at the same time breaking them apart. Rosie was an inspiring character. Her life was harder than most due to physical challenges, but she didn't let that stop her from trying to achieve her dreams. She was so good deep down inside, and saw good in Dean when others wouldn't have. Honestly, Dean was a cocky jerk. He may have had a lot going for him career and looks wise, but he wasn't a nice guy. Dean had moments where his compassion and sweetness showed through, but they were rare. He was pretty messed up, and it took a lot to get him started on the right path. It took me a while to really like Dean. I would have liked to have seen more of the redeemed Dean. I could have used about 5 epilogues to believe he could be who he needed to be -- I'm not just saying that because I fell in love with him even more in the epilogue provided.Rosie and Dean's relationship was a rough one. There were a lot of barriers trying to keep them apart. Whether it was her health, his addictions or their friends and family, nothing was strong enough to break them apart. Their chemistry and love for each other was too strong. I loved how they fought for their love and for each other.Since this is the first book I've read in the Sinner of Saint series, I feel the need to point out two things. First, the side characters are just as intriguing as the main characters. Hearing about everyone's combined past makes me want to hurry up and read the other books in the series. I need to know more about the rest of the HotHoles and their women. Second, this book can be read as a standalone. You don't have to have read the first book to read this one. It might have made it more fun (I don't know since I didn't read the other books first.), but it was a great reading experience without having read the other books.Oh! And I can't leave out the fact that Ruckus surprised me! I thought I knew what Dean's secrets were going to be, but I didn't! I was completely surprised a couple of different times while reading. I loved that!Overall, I loved reading Ruckus. This enthralling romance was combined with just the right amount of mystery and darkness. It was everything I expect from a great new adult book. I will be immediately reading the rest of the series.

OMG.. THIS BOOK DESTROYED ME. especially when I really hadn't expected to fall in love with this one more than I loved VICIOUS. but did fall hard. Ms. Shen is such an excellent writer. Her stories will grab you and drag you into the storm. The writing is always so intense and such that makes you feel the intense emotions of the characters. DEAN AND ROSIE... This is it for me. I just want to go back and read this book all over again.. Ruckus will create havoc on your mind and you'll be completely blown away. Right till the end. Ah, my heart has completely fallen in love with Ruckus. I especially loved that epilogue. As always AMAZING, MIND BLOWING READ. 💖

I’m so happy!!!

I loved this book HARD!!I loved this couple HARD!!!OMG this book is raw, gritty & real. This one is not all flowers & fairy tales. It's nitty gritty, in your face kinda read. It gives you all the feels. The big feels & the little feels. It will make you curse this author because why do this to them, they're so meant to be. Let them have some easy times. Sometimes the best things come from what you have to fight for."Love felt like dipping each other in gasoline and burning together. Love felt like dancing with madness in the dark, watching all of its bright lights. Love felt like gasping for air when your lungs were already full."So I know some people are going to read the blurb & think it's not for them because of the whole sister's ex concept. Believe me when I say this book is so much more than that one little facet of it.I have to share this quote because I just absolutely loved it!!"Daddy said I was a magnet for the wrong kind of boys, but that was like sugarcoating a ball of dirt and rusty nails."If you haven't started this series then do so soon. The next one is releasing very soon & I'm so excited!!
