Charting and Technical Analysis

Description:

To invest successfully or trade in Stocks, Options, Forex, or even Mutual Funds, it is imperative to know AND understand price and market movements that can only be learned from Technical Analysis. You should NEVER attempt Trading or Investing without it!My 25 years experience has taught me that 'every book on the market' regarding Charting and Technical Analysis is seemingly worthless. All seem to find yet another creative way to tell you to “Buy Low and Sell High.” And they offer NO in-depth understanding or analysis about WHO is buying and WHO is selling, and when.Point is, anyone, experienced or not, can show you a picture of a Chart and tell you to buy at the bottom and sell at the top. That is simple 'hindsight,' and is always 20/20.This book is different! It is IN-DEPTH – EXPLAINED and you WILL learn price movements and technical analysis from this information! You will understand and recognize tops and bottoms in the market and in particular stocks, AS they are forming. This is highly valuable information, and you should NEVER attempt to trade or invest without this knowledge.Mutual Funds? Most people think they do not need this information because the have a Mutual Fund. That could not be farther from the truth. Investing your hard-earned money should be done with your own knowledge of market direction, when to buy, and when to move your money to safety. Without this knowledge you are at the mercy of a salesperson hungry to earn a commission. Thus, invariably entering the market at the wrong time and in the wrong investment. No one else has your best interest in mind. So learn to protect your money or keep it in the bank. It's that simple. The next move is yours.

From the Author

In 2000, and again in late 2007 as the market was topping out, I could see that financial advisors were continually selling investment products to unsuspecting investors that would certainly result in a loss. They had no plan to protect the investment capital, no real knowledge of market trends or bear markets, they were just making a sale.

Realizing some of those investors would wait years to see net profit, or may never break-even, I became determined to provide individual investors with the tools and information necessary to make their own investment decisions. This book will hopefully enable every investor to make wise decisions and avoid the pitfalls of the treacherous investing world.

I firmly believe the individual investor should never risk money without first understanding technical analysis and also reading my book, 'Common Sense Investing.'

From the Inside Flap

Fire your Financial Advisor!

Yes, that is a bold statement.
The primary objective in this book is to prepare you to take charge of your investment decisions by learning charting and technical analysis in detail. You will no longer be sold an investment at the wrong time, during adverse market conditions, or when the market is topping out and ready to decline. You will only put your money at risk when the odds of a great return are in your favor.

"The cornerstone of the technical philosophy is the belief that all of the factors that influence market price--fundamental information, political events, natural disasters, and psychological factors-- are quickly discounted in market activity."
In other words, the impact of these external factors will quickly show up in some form of price movement, either up or down. Chart analysis, therefore, is simply a short-cut form of fundamental analysis.
As Charles Dow believed, the market discounts everything. All roads of technical analysis inevitably lead back to the Dow Theory. Modern day charting and technical analysis uses the basic foundation of the Dow Theory and encompasses modern charting techniques and strategies to give the investor and trader a distinct advantage.

Very valuable and honest insight from Mr. McAllen. The book provides a foundation to use technical analysis and its tools to see the bigger picture of trading and investing. I recommends this book to all serious traders and investors. However I must say that you need, as a reader, to have already a good background of technical analysis concepts and tools to get the most benefits of this book. Highly recommended!

After having read Ted Warren's book, "Having the Stock Market Make Money for You," (which at one point was bought up by the manipulators and then republished, I wanted to share some insight about Fred's book and Ted's. I found that if the 2 people met, they would almost completely agree on everything. I was amazed! We cannot fault Ted, however, because of the time period in which he lived - when there were the 40's, 50's, and 60's stocks (employment was also limited in terms of funding a brokerage account; he also had the problem of not enough regulation in the industry like an untrustworthy broker skipping town). Ted did not have the myriad of choices in investing/speculating that we do now such as - options and options on futures. Ted used what he had available at the time along with his charting skill and became a millionaire. If Ted had the tools we have now, there is no doubt in my mind that he would have made more money, dealt with any downside better, protected profits better, and become a millionaire faster. Ted did buy and sell stocks as well as futures for about 126 % annualized return. With Fred's book, I found it to be an easy read - I zipped through 70 pages at the pool! I also read it on a flight back to my home town and then finished it this week. (Other books written by Fred are shown at the end) Each new chapter kept me at the edge of my seat as I'd learn something new, confirmed something I already knew, or pondered our current market. It is my belief now that we can't just simply learn about greeks, read the latest crop futures report, or know all the inner workings of Apple - we need Charting and Technical Analysis! At a glance, and with some light further analysis a trade plan can be developed with a high probability of success.

4.0 out of 5 stars I found this book very useful as an introduction to technical (chart) analysis for trading

I found this book very useful as an introduction to technical (chart) analysis for trading. I have read other investing books and often find that it just feels like the author is trying to sell you on their particular brand of strategy and/or use the book as a marketing tool for other investment products that they sell. Fred McAllen thankfully does not do that in this book. You really get a sense that the author is trying to cut through a lot of the BS noise that you get from these market pundits and sham educators and just provide a no-nonsense guide to basic chart analysis. Fred does plug is other books a couple of times, but their mention is minimal. It is worth noting that the book primarily uses candlestick chart patterns for analysis. So if you prefer other types of charts for analysis then maybe look elsewhere. Personally, I am a big fan of candlestick charts so I like it. He does also go a bit into using technical indicators such as moving averages. Overall the book does not go deep into other technical indicators. So if you would like to learn about others I would suggest looking elsewhere.Overall I felt that this book was an excellent basic-intermediate introduction to charting. My only disappointment is that it did not go into quite the level of depth that I was hoping for, but it is still a very good resource and I like the author's style.

If you want to start trading. READ THIS BOOK ! I read a few books before this starting with stocks for dummies or something along those lines, which essentially advocated for fundamental analysis over technical analysis. I started in feb at the 2021 bubble. Buying in at the highes, checking company financials, making sure they are profitable each quarter with increasing profits, making sure my PE ratios were not too high. All that jazz. Tons of hours researching etc. then coming up with strategies to dollar average down.. March came. Lost half my investment. Worked my way back up. May came. Lost another 75 percent. Something had to give.YouTube and fundamental analysis could only take me so far. I had to learn how to recognize the signs for entry and exit. Man has this book changed my world. At the time of writing. I have pinned up the charts, patterns, and rules etc next to my trading station. watching for the set up, waiting for validation, and entering. Today at time of writing, after re-reading a few chapters, I’m 2-0 in the morning, without being stopped out, and up about 300$ Nothing amazing, however before this i was kind of all over the place, with much smaller profits on my wins. Def read this book if your looking for a great into to technical analysis

I originally downloaded this book on kindle unlimited so my expectations were not high. I was surprised at how useful I found it. You can get the same information online for free but this book organizes and consolidates it into one very useful reference source. It is well-written by someone who is confident enough to write about technical analysis without making it too difficult for the average investor to understand.I decided I needed a print copy of this book and ordered the spiral bound edition, which I highly recommend. If you really plan to use this book, order the spiral.
