5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful landscapes in a unique style
I was unaware of Richard Mayhew until I came across an online article about him as his book of landscape paintings was being released. A few of his works were included in the piece, which enticed me to buy the book, and I’m so glad I did. His use of color somehow manages to be visceral and relaxing at the same time and all of the works have a soft focus style which is impressionistic. But his color choices are something else. It’s definitely landscape painting with a singular style.I hope to see some of these on exhibit somewhere!
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful art book
Amazing artwork presented with great quality art print!
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful images of abstract landscapes
My husband and I visited the Hecksher Museum in Huntington, LI, NY to see the Richard Mayhew paintings. They were stunning. I wanted a reference book like this one to capture the art and inspire me to paint my own abstracts. The book does not disappoint! Gorgeous!
4.0 out of 5 stars Varied Collection?
The prints are large and beautiful. I was hoping though the selection would be more varied across the artists career, but maybe that's my misconception. If you are a fan, definitely get it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite, Sublime, Audacious Color
I LOVE THIS BOOK! Mayhew's extravagant, imaginative color-scapes are transcendent. I enjoy evocative color, abstract art, and impressionism, which are the essence of works in this volume. I have the book opened on the desk in my office so that I can immerse myself in a different world throughout the workday -- and for a few moments, I am transported! This is now my favorite art book.
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Images
I didn't know anything about this artist until I got this book. As an artist, I was attracted to the image on the cover of this book, and throughout the artwork is beautifully printed. I'm glad to have some biographical information, and views of his work as a contemporary artist.
5.0 out of 5 stars Nice coffee table book
Good photos in the book.
5.0 out of 5 stars GORGEOUS! Most beautiful book of paintings we have bought in years.
Richard Mayhew is a national treasure. And my husband and I agreed, after purchasing this book (based on a few paintings we have the privilege to visit in San Francisco) that since we can't afford his paintings, we should see how we can get reproductions, we so dearly want to put one in our home. We wouldn't say this if these paintings weren't absolutely wonderful even at a smaller scale, and on paper! Would definitely recommend this book.
Organic and beautiful
Richard Mayhew’s book Transcendence is filled with gorgeous plates showing Mayhew’s unique way of seeing the natural world. It is almost as though he sees the world through Polaroid filters.
Wow!
A book full of glorious beautiful landscape paintings that are rich and full of colour. Fantastic paintings in this book are very well reproduced. It’s a joy.
Richard Mayhew: Transcendence.
A beautiful little book; I knew of painter Richard Mayhew from pictures online but I only discovered this square-format hardback volume a few days ago – I grabbed it without hesitation. It has 64 full-page colour reproductions of Mayhew`s wonderfully luminous paintings; near abstract, but very clearly identifiable landscapes, they are atmospheric and evocative of light and mood; the works are executed in oils or watercolour.I got it for my own enjoyment, but I`ll be showing it to my painting students as examples of using colour and composition without the need for complicated detail or fussy topographical accuracy.Texts are a couple of brief introductory pieces and an interview with the artist.A really good wee volume – the “Look inside” option above doesn`t do it justice.
An excellent art book
I liked the display of large pictures. It's very useful in deciding combinationsOf colours, so that you create harmonyAnd mood, evoking memories of whatYou know.
