The product photograph for the cover of this journal exactly replicates the appearance of the real thing: this book is absolutely gorgeous up close and personal. It feels substantial in the hand, and the off-white pages are a pleasant weight of paper, velvety smooth to the touch. The lines are very unobtrusive--much lighter than depicted in the product photos. Additionally, the book is bound with traditional stitching and does, indeed, lay flat for ease of writing. And best of all, it smells like a new book!The only thing I could have wanted is pre-printed page numbers, perhaps in some sort of Edwardian script in the same light ink as the page lines, perhaps centered at the bottom of the page or in the lower outer corners. But I realize this is just a personal preference and many other people prefer pages without numbers.There were, however, a couple of little things I didn't like. First off, the glue that held the bookmark ribbon in place stained the ribbon as well as took off some of the paper when I detached it. Additionally, even though there are technically 192 pages, only 190 of them are actually blank (since I had to number it by hand I happen to know exactly how many pages there are): the first two pages are the title page and the copyright page. That said, these are both minor issues and detract very little from my overall favorable impression of this book.I'm not sure if the following is a good thing or a bad one, but the paper did not seem to absorb either gel ink or traditional ballpoint ink (the only two inks I have so far used) very quickly, causing the excess ink bits to be transferred to the opposing page if I didn't allow it to dry before closing the book. I do not know if another type of ink would fare better. This issue is, however, easily remedied by placing a tissue between newly written pages. This is a practice that was done centuries ago* and I would consider it a part of the ritual of writing in the journal.Interestingly, since I purchased this item one week ago, the price has increased $2.95 (from $3.74 to $6.69), but even at the increased price, it is still an excellent buy. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting a luxurious blank journal.*And is likely the origin of the little tissue that is often placed in overpriced wedding invitations. But don't feel it necessary to go out and get wrapping tissue (which is the closest thing we have to the stuff that is used in wedding invites) unless you just want to; facial tissue will do the job just fine.

Another gorgeous journal by Peter Pauper Press. The cover of this one is very colorful and based on Catalan Atlas from 1375, attributed to the master map-maker Abraham Cresques of Spain.The diagram has earth in the center with an astronomer holding an astrolabe. I didn’t know what an astrolabe was so I looked it up. “An astrolabe is an instrument formerly used to make astronomical measurements, typically of the altitudes of celestial bodies, and in navigation for calculating latitude, before the development of the sextant. In its basic form (known from classical times), it consists of a disk with the edge marked in degrees and a pivoted pointer.” Around the earth are the elements, planets, signs of the zodiac, moon phases in the circles. The fours season as shown in the corners.The cover, back and spine are all embossed and enhanced with subtle iridescent highlights which make it stand out. The design is full of gold, brown and blue colors that make this journal look very rich. The page edges are also gold. The spine of Peter Pauper journals are always interesting and this one has matching diamond shapes in the blue, gold and browns seen on the cover. This makes it stand out in the bookshelf.There is 192 lined pages in the journal. They are acid-free archival paper. The inside and back covers are gold and there’s a matching ribbon bookmark inside. The journal lays flat to make it easier to write your thoughts down.This journal is hardcover and is 7.25 x 9 inches.The beauty, detail and workmanship put into these journals make them very desirable in my opinion.

This might be the last great deal you can get in 2024. This notebook is a steal for what it is. Beautiful art wraps the entire outside covers and spine with silver and gold accents. The paper is a beautiful 120 gsm, acid free, archival paper. The edges are gold gilded, and it has a nice ribbon for keeping your page. I’m an absolute notebook SNOB and I couldn’t be happier. There are many notebooks more expensive than this that don’t meet the same quality by a landslide. Would make an excellent gift as well!

Superb craftsmanship. These journals (I purchased several different covers as gifts) are BEAUTIFUL and so very well made. The paper is like silk, the gold edging perfect. They are lovely to hold, to feel to look at. Really sturdy aswell. I am seriously impressed and very glad to be able to give such an impressive gift. Excellent value for the money.
