5.0 out of 5 stars Fundamentally Transformative
This volume was incredibly helpful for me to help shape the language and culture of discipling in my own heart and gave me a vision I could reproduce in the people I am discipling. While it is not an extensive how to or an exhaustive theological treatise on the subject its richness lies in its fundamental simplicity.I’m grateful to Mark writing it and to God for giving me eyes to read it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great primer on discipleship.
Liked:Clear and concise. Practical. Biblical. Useful for someone who’s never discipled before.Disliked:Too short, but that’s just me.Overall:10/10 recommend
4.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for Church-Centered Discpleship
Helpful book. I think there are a few chapters that are a little oversimplified. Also, I would have liked to hear him talk more about how to challenge those we are investing into. But overall, a great resource for discipleship, and of course, it emphasizes the local church, which is so needed.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on discipleship I’ve read
Great book on discipleship, great author and I like 9Marks thinking on such things.
5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful Short but Thorough Book on Investing in Others by Discipling.
This short book on discipleship is a worthwhile read for any church leader involved in the process of helping others find and follow God or any Christian who wants to make a solid impact in the lives of others. Dever does well to point toward essentials of discipleship while offering a fairly complete definition of what a disciple is.Dever divides the book into three sections that focus on "What is Discipling" this section provides a definition of discipling along with an explanation of what it entails and common objections toward it; "Where Should We Disciple"' this provides context on relationships that stewardship has been given for discipling others. And ends with a section on "How Should We Disciple" with some clear guidelines on how to choose someone, having clear goals, and how to invest in others in a way that develops them as a leader. The conclusion gives a concise closing to the book that is also helpful in learning to invest intentionally in others through discipling. That, I think, is the heart of discipling: sharing rule. And what will be the result? Knowing the joy of the creating and redeeming God himself.
5.0 out of 5 stars Discipling
I’m doing a little research for a book club and realized I’d purchased this long ago and should dive in. The books I’d “reserve” for the series were centered on what it looks like to disciple children. This is very different than those books. This is a mile high, “why do we do it”, series. This covers discipleship more broadly both within and without the church, all ages, all stages of maturity, all along the ecclesiastical hierarchy. Short and sweet.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very good read
There is so much covered in this book. It is not the pastor’s responsibility to disciple others or to implement a culture of discipleship, we all have a role to play whether there’s a program or not. I like all the illustrations given and the relatable examples, as well as the call to action as we help build the church through the sanctification process.
4.0 out of 5 stars This was a good brief on discipling and the principles ascribed to discipling ...
This was a good brief on discipling and the principles ascribed to discipling through the gospels and the example of Christ. I would recommend this for an individual study, but the content is very abbreviated and probably would not make a good book for a group study.
