Tim Flach is a world-renowned animal photographer acclaimed for his striking, portrait-style work that explores the complex relationship between humans and the animal kingdom. Eschewing traditional wildlife photography, his images―often set against minimal backdrops―evoke empathy and inspire action for conservation. Flach's notable monographs include Dogs (2010), Birds (2021), and Feline (2025), continuing his exploration of both domestic and wild species. His work seeks to bring animals into direct view to underscore their individual character and the urgent need for their protection.
Richard O. Prum is the author of The Evolution of Beauty (2017), named one of the Best Books of the Year by the New York Times and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. A professor of ornithology at Yale University and MacArthur Fellow, he lives in New Haven, Connecticut.

This is a beautiful book. I purchased it as a Christmas present for my father who is a nature lover with advanced Alzheimer’s. He needs glasses, but never wears them due to forgetting practically everything these days. When he saw the cover he said Wow! My husband asked him what was on the cover and he said a Cardinal! As if saying, “who doesn’t know what a Cardinal looks like.”Seeing him light up like that made my year! He looked through the book twice that night before going to bed. The pictures are gorgeous! And large! You can see all the incredible colors of the feathers close up!

Just as the title describes. Beautiful photos with thick good quality pages. Great for someone with vision issues allow you to see close up. Not much information except in the back few pages, which I like. A great coffee table book for sure worth the money.

I was pleasantly surprised upon receiving this book. It is the perfect coffee table book. The book itself is quite heavy. The photos inside are stunning. Full page, full color photographs. This is the perfect gift for the bird lover in your life. The back of the book supplies an index of all the birds pictured throughout the book as well.

Incredibly detailed photos are a pleasure to look through. Evident that Meticulous care went into selecting photos and incorporating reference text, but not at all text heavy.If you want a large, beautiful table book, this is a treasure. Highly recommended to bird and nature enthusiasts.

This book is a magnificent collections of avian photography. The various bird species chosen show a wide range of plumage and color types. The photographs consist of close-ups of feathers, facial features, portraits, full-body, and in-flight imagery. This is an excellent book if one simply enjoys very well-done photography. It is also a wonderful resource for artists who are drawn to avian forms and details. While yes, it is pricey, it is an Art Book, very well-produced, and I think that it is well worth the money.

This is a book with heft. I bought it for my friend who is an ornithologist. He loved it. The photography is wonderful, as is the writing. It's a big, heavy thick book. So glad I had it delivered.
