Justice: The Deluxe Edition

Description:

The greatest criminal masterminds of our time appear to be acting in concert -- but with a surprising plan that seeks to achieve more good than the JLA ever could.

They are the World's Greatest Super-Heroes. But the members of the fabled Justice League of America are about to learn that they aren't the only ones who can band together and work toward a common goal. The world's deadliest criminal masterminds have learned some valuable lessons from their past defeats, and their latest plan finds them acting in concert to bring about total victory--for the forces of good!

Behind its seemingly sincere façade, however, this campaign to save the world is actually a carefully honed scheme to enslave it--by systematically discrediting and neutralizing the members of the Justice League, one by one. As the villains begin to gain the world's trust, our heroes must redouble their efforts to expose the truth--to fight...for JUSTICE!

The DC Universe is stunningly reimagined in this epic tale from celebrated writer Jim Krueger (
Earth X, Universe X) and acclaimed artists Alex Ross (Kingdom Come, Marvels) and Doug Braithwaite (Paradise X). Justice: The Deluxe Edition contains all 12 issues of the bestselling maxiseries and includes over 100 pages of detailed character biographies, developmental sketches, pencil art, bonus covers, collectibles galleries, and more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular series on par with Kingdom Come

C.A.D. · January 31, 2025

With such a talented collection of writing and art, this trade was a master collection of the series with a wonderful hardcover and art sleeve. Delicious to read! If you like Kingdom Come, you'll love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alix Ross is the best

J.H. · February 25, 2021

In my opinion, Alex Ross is the best comic artist in the business. Every page is stunning. There are a ton of characters in this book, and they are all beautiful. This would be one of my favorite graphic novels based on the art alone, but I also really enjoyed the story. Worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story and presentation

G. · May 19, 2020

The book is larger than a modern comic and Alex Ross' images jump off the pages. In my opinion, it is worth the extra money to buy the hardcover edition due to the beautiful presentation.

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest Justice League story ever told

D.S. · January 4, 2022

Jim Krueger gets these characters. He understands them, the world they inhabit, and he knows us too. Justice is a story about people -- not superheroes -- people. As comics readers know, DC struggles to humanize its corral of characters with the ease of its competition. Krueger doesn't share this struggle. His sweeping tale of the JLA and the humanization of the world in which the team lives is equal parts creative genius and believable. The Alex Ross finishes over Doug Braithwaite's layouts is the perfect compliment. Do yourself a favor. Pick up this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just answer the question

R.L.W. · July 28, 2022

I’d love to give this book 5 stars based on the art alone, but the story doesn’t warrant it. Still, if you’re an Alex Ross fan, this is the motherlode: a 12-issue series with sustained kick-ass visuals from start to finish. I watched a YouTube video with comic shop employees ragging on Ross for his slavish adherence to photo-realism, how it’s boring, dated, lacking in the kind of exaggerated, expressionistic dynamism you look for in comics. To each his own, I guess, but for me Ross is the Norman Rockwell of American comics; a guy who does what my acting teachers called “heightened reality,” where all the elements of real life are there but upped a couple notches so they look BETTER than real life. The way a Maxfield Parrish painting looks more magical than the models and reference materials he used to construct it.So that’s the art. The story, well… In the afterward, Ross and writer Jim Krueger talk about wanting to explore the villains as well as the heroes, but while Sean Murphy’s White Knight has the Joker ask “Is the Batman actually bad for Gotham?” and answers brilliantly and definitively with a big fat YES, Justice has the Legion of Doom ask “Is the Justice League irresponsible for not changing the world for the better?” and never follows up. I mean, it’s a deep, obvious, logical question the villains put forth to the world as they start a global campaign to help it, but because it’s part of their “evil” plot, it’s never properly examined or pondered by anyone, superhuman or not; it’s ramifications and suggestions just background noise to the endless fighting that’s often hard to follow because of the umpteen characters and overlapping scenes. What’s missing, I think, is what made Marvels and Kingdom Come work so well: a regular person, or persons, to provide a human perspective to the mind-boggling beings and events affecting their lives. People who ask questions like: “What do you guys do for us, really, except fight each other?” If you’re buying Justice to have that and questions like it answered or discussed, look elsewhere. if you’re buying Justice for the art, by all means do so—it’s magnificent.

Another big hit by the Greats in the industry… The story, panel designs, rendering and flash of it all (no pan intended); come together for a “MUST HAVE IN MY COLLECTION AT ALL COST” kind of book 🙂

A fantastic Deluxe Edition

S.M. · August 15, 2019

The book has sewn binding, a lifting ribbon and next to no gutter loss. It has a Beautiful Wraparound cover under the dust jacket of Alex Ross's Iconic painting of villains and heroes facing each other. DC Clearly cared when they put this DC Deluxe edition together, the bigger size is worth the upgrade. The 100 pages of extras are mostly character bios from a past printing of some form of Batman Files... There are also sketches and other odds and ends. I was really hoping for Annotations, but there really isn't much to complain about regarding the book. ( I was hoping DC would reprint Absolute justice instead)Justice is one of the best Justice League Stories, recommended for newcomers and DC experts. The character Bios In the back will be able to fill you in on any characters in the book you don't know.DC released and Ugly, glued spine, gutter loss black cardboard deluxe edition of Kingdom Come. This is a GIANT leap forward. Hopefully DC can keep this kind of standard going forward.

A Gleaming Tribute to the Superhero Ideal

L.V.S. · September 26, 2025

Justice: The Deluxe Edition is a visually stunning and thematically rich celebration of DC’s iconic heroes, brought to life by the powerhouse team of Alex Ross, Jim Krueger, and Doug Braithwaite. This oversized hardcover collects the full 12-issue miniseries in a format that truly honors the grandeur of the story and the art.The plot centers on the Legion of Doom launching a seemingly benevolent campaign to save humanity—only for the Justice League to uncover a deeper, more sinister agenda. It’s classic superhero storytelling with a philosophical edge, exploring what it means to protect, to lead, and to inspire. Krueger’s writing is earnest and mythic, while Ross’s painted art (over Braithwaite’s pencils) is nothing short of breathtaking—each panel feels like a museum piece. The deluxe edition features high-quality paper, a sturdy binding, and bonus content including character designs and commentary. It’s a must-have for fans of Alex Ross or anyone who appreciates superhero comics that aim for timeless resonance over gritty realism. If you’re curating a shelf of prestige DC works, this belongs right alongside Kingdom Come and The New Frontier. It’s not just a comic—it’s a love letter to heroism.
