About this Global Cover Collection Edition:
The royal poinciana, also known as the flame tree, is native to Madagascar but is now found in many tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. The plant has a strong connection to Christianity. Legend has it that the crown of thorns, placed on Jesus' head before his crucifixion, was made from the branches of a poinciana tree. As a result, the tree is considered a symbol of Christ's suffering and is associated with the Easter season. The vibrant red-orange colour of its flowers is also said to represent the flames of the Holy Spirit.
From the Back Cover
The New Revised Standard Version is the standard translation used by mainline Protestant churches, Orthodox churches, and by many Catholics. The NRSV debuted in 1989 and is owned by the National Council of Churches, which is the leading force for ecumenical cooperation among Christians in the United States representing thirty-five denominations with forty-five million members in more than 100,000 churches across the country. They have chosen HarperCollins to be the exclusive licensor of the translation for the world (nonexclusively in the UK).
The New Revised Standard Version is recognized in scholarly circles as the most accurate translation into English of the original Hebrew and Greek texts. In the tradition of its predecessors, the King James Version and the Revised Standard Version, the NRSV was designed to be the standard version for English-speaking people across all denominations, which in many ways it has become. None of the new, more sectarian translations have approached its standards of elegance and accuracy.
This unique one-column setting allows people to read the Bible as work of literature. Each book is introduced with an original wood-cut. Overall, this special easy-to-read setting makes the Bible a wonderful reading experience. It also includes a concordance index to help people find key passages.

The New Revised Standard Version - Catholic Edition
The New Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition (NRSV-CE) is a Bible translation approved for use by the Catholic Church, receiving the imprimatur of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops in 1991. The NRSV-CE includes all 73 books of the Catholic Bible in the traditional Catholic order.
Church leaders and religion scholars from a wide range of denominations trust the NRSV’s accuracy and praise its readability. Read what some of the most respected religious voices in the country have to say about the NRSV.
“I view the NRSV translation to be the finest English Bible we have today. Its scholarship is impeccable. The English is accurate, approachable, and readable. It is excellent for both public and private use. I recommend it highly.” — Richard J. Foster, author of Celebration of Discipline
“A good translation of the Bible is one that doesn’t sound like something printed in double columns on India paper but like this morning’s edition of the New York Times. Surprisingly often that is how the NRSV sounds to me.” — Frederick Buechner, author of Secrets in the Dark
“Ever since it was first published, I have recommended it to students as the most reliable English translation for study purposes, and as the best for public reading in church.” — Marcus Borg, author of The Heart of Christianity
