5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource

A.C. · November 13, 2024

I have been studying for my Network+ and this book has been great so far. I am 5 chapters away from finishing the text and it has been solid. The author is really good at explaining things. I love how he repeats concepts over and over to help the information stick. I have always struggled with subnetting and hexadecimal concepts, but now I can subnet in my head and on paper within seconds on my own after reading the chapter on subnetting because he has numerous examples that you practice in that chapter to help you learn. Get your pen and paper ready :)I work in cybersecurity and this book has also been a great resource at work as well. I hope it helps others learn networking like it has for me. Good luck in your studies!

I love how easy and digestible the information is. It comes with a year of free practice questions with electronic flash cards. They really made dense information feel lighter. I’m using this along with some Udemy courses.

1.0 out of 5 stars missing pages

book seems good. so does the author. but pages 37-68 from chapter 2 are missing. I already wrote notes on some pages, so I kinda stuck. I'm worried to continue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it and study for the Cert. It's worth it!

A. · August 23, 2024

Good textbook, supplement with videos from YouTube/ Corsea/Foundational videos. Do as many questions as you can find. Passing the test is definitely possible.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wrong info, Imcomplete info - Who is editing these books?

M. · February 5, 2025

The editors should all be fired. I'm only in chapter 4 and am finding multiple mistakes. I've contacted the publisher three times already. too much wrong data is wrong or incomplete. Like the author talks around ethernet speeds for one category and then doesn't mention the speed in the next category leaving you hanging. Or gives examples about complex topics but never explains them as though you should already know, then goes on to ask you about it in the end of the chapter. In one example, he says a 1000BaseTX uses all 8 wires. That's not true. TX uses two pairs (4 wires) and is now and old and outdated. But the author never mentioned this or even mentions what TX is, but only says T is for twisted pair. TX also means transfer as RX means receive wires. I just know it from my A+ and multiple google searches and sites confirms this. Chapter 4 lab says 0xF = 16 in two different questions and both answers are wrong in the back of the book. 0xF = 15.I'm not going to list everything. I might just toss the book out in the garbage and start over. This test is over $300 bucks. I'm really questioning where this will lead me.

Accurate and easy to read

Wonderful textbook.

Not worth \

W. · November 18, 2024

Clearly the author knows a lot about the subject, but the book is poorly written. The material is unclear and unorganized. Some of the material is found in multiple chapters and is often repeated which makes it redundant. The book needs someone to look over it and 2/3 of the book could be removed and it would still make sense. There are no real definitions of anything. I needed to look up almost everything I read.

Poor explanations with little to no context

A.R. · November 3, 2024

Book is really awful, which is a shame because the last two books (Sybex ITF+ and A+) were really good. The writer seems like one of these people who says a lot without actually saying anything. It is like he has found some sort of way to write that makes you feel like you are reading without your glasses on, or like you are driving in the dark without your head lights.Everything is poorly explained using a load of gibberish words that sound like they came straight from a technical documentation, and little to no context is provided for the reader to really understand what the writer is trying to say. As a result you are left scratching your head saying to yourself "what on earth is he on about?!".This is coming from someone who is self-taught in software engineering, is working on a computer science degree, passed the ITF+ and A+ exams first try, and has no issues learning the material for the Network+ but from somewhere else. It is a problem with this book and the author. That being said, I'm only on page 64, so maybe it will get better?
