The artwork and photographs are nicely done. There is a well-balanced amount of illustrations vs. pictures. The content covers all of the major content chunks (safety, tools, major systems, adjustment, repair, diagnostics). The ASE questions cover lots of content and are well written.
The table of contents is excellent. The overall content is very accurate and complete, and mostly up-to-date. I really like the review questions, especially the multiple choice. I think the photographs and illustrations really add to the value of this book. Especially helpful for beginning students. For most of our students, level is perfect. I really like Tim's approach, tone, and writing style. Having used this book for several years and several editions, I know each edition is always improved over the last, even being a great book as is.

This book covers just about everything you ever wanted to know about automotive repair. It is a BIG and HEAVY book, over 1700 pages total. It is published by Cengage, the same company that makes the Today's Technician series.. which I am a big fan of and own all 8 volumes of automotive service. I do have to give the edge to the Today's Tech series over this massive book though. As great as Tim Gilles is with this book, the other series is goes into MUCH more detail on service and repair. The key is that today's tech series is a 2 volume set, so an entire separate book is dedicated to service and repair. This book has many chapters but I do find it lacking in some areas, especially the Drum Brake service chapter and the A/C service chapter. Overall it is a great supplement to other auto repair books, but for complete auto service... look to the Today's tech series, it's fantastic.

I bought this for my hubby for his birthday. His dream is to become an auto-mechanic and I thought this would be a great push in the direction that he wants. I only skimmed through the pages a bit, but was impressed with the amount of information in it as well as the illustrations and tests. Looks exactly like the textbooks that are required for college/uni. There are 1686 pages worth of information, which excludes the glossary and index. I will update further once he has had a chance to read some of it.

Using this book for my college automotive class, and it’s been great. The explanations are clear, and it goes step by step which makes classwork and shop work easier. It’s a big book, but worth it, for anyone majoring into Automotive Technician
