Everyone refers to the St. Cecelia as “the Saint.” If you grew up coming here, you were “a Saint.” If you came from the wrong side of the river, you were “an Ain’t.” Traci Eddings was one of those outsiders whose family wasn’t rich enough or connected enough to vacation here. But she could work here. One fateful summer she did, and married the boss’s son. Now, she’s the widowed owner of the hotel, determined to see it return to its glory days, even as staff shortages and financial troubles threaten to ruin it. Told with Mary Kay Andrew’s warmth, humor, knack for twists, and eye for delicious detail about human nature, Summers at the Saint is a beach read with depth and heart.My Thoughts:As we follow the characters into the past in order to figure out the present and future, Summers at the Saint was a page turner that kept me enthralled throughout.I loved the primary characters, like Traci Eddings, along with some of the newer ones, like Livvy…and how all of them came together to turn the hotel around and solve a murder kept me intrigued throughout.Finding out the nefarious deeds of some of them was such fun and earned five stars from me.***

Some things I liked: the main characters were a bit older and, while well off, weren’t fabulously wealthy, reasonably, but not fabulously good looking. This makes them relatable and thus interesting to read about. The plot moved along at a fairly brisk pace and for the most part was logical as the case was built to solve and murder and other crimes.I have only two real complaints. One, the romance portion of the plot felt a little bit like an afterthought as it came on and bloomed a bit too fast to be believable. As a consequence, I didn’t really feel the chemistry between the two characters. Two, as a pair of old friends reunite, there was an element of silliness I found distracting especially as it occurs during the climax of the story. Teenage nicknames used between 40+ year old women after years of acrimony between the two just felt “off” to me.All that said, it’s a solid 3.5 star beach read.

Mystery, romance, Southern dysfunctional families: this book has it all. Smart writing, complex and multilayered characters make this an engaging and entertaining reading experience. The audio book is a great companion for alternating reading time between sitting with the book or being busy reading, sewing, or working around at home.

This book captured my attention from page 1. Caught between wanting to read it straight through and wanting to only read a bit at a time to savor it. Rich detailed characters that you will definitely get attached to and a story that will keep you quessing. Mary Kay Andrews gives us a behind the scenes peek at old money and how they live and vacation. The Saint resort is as much a character in this story as the people and you will find yourself wanting to visit this splendid albeit imaginary place.

Started as A fun summer read, great characters with loads of twists and turns. I’m just so so tired of the “required” gay characters in almost every book you pick up lately. This story introduces these 2 men and that they’re gay has almost nothing to do with the story line and the one guy who sounded like he’d be interesting at the start of the book becomes a non event never developed into anything.Do authors think we don’t notice this it’s in everything now.

Mary Kay Andrews is my favorite author. I have read all her books and enjoyed Summers at the Saint. It had murder, pain in the you know whatguest, romance and many greedy people.
