Networking All-in-One For Dummies

Description:

Your ultimate one-stop networking reference

Designed to replace that groaning shelf-load of dull networking books you’d otherwise have to buy and house, Networking All-in-One For Dummies covers all the basic and not-so-basic information you need to get a network up and running. It also helps you keep it running as it grows more complicated, develops bugs, and encounters all the fun sorts of trouble you expect from a complex system. Ideal both as a starter for newbie administrators and as a handy quick reference for pros, this book is built for speed, allowing you to get past all the basics―like installing and configuring hardware and software, planning your network design, and managing cloud services―so you can get on with what your network is actually intended to do.

In a friendly, jargon-free style, Doug Lowe―an experienced IT Director and prolific tech author―covers the essential, up-to-date information for networking in systems such as Linux and Windows 10 and clues you in on best practices for security, mobile, and more. Each of the nine minibooks demystifies the basics of one key area of network management.

  • Plan and administrate your network
  • Implement virtualization
  • Get your head around networking in the Cloud
  • Lock down your security protocols

The best thing about this book? You don’t have to read it all at once to get things done; once you’ve solved the specific issue at hand, you can put it down again and get on with your life. And the next time you need it, it’ll have you covered.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thorough resource for both the casually interested and seasoned network admins.

An excellent overview of networking fundamentals and implementation details. There is solid foundational material and surprisingly thorough information at a technical level. Although you won't be qualified for a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification when you are done reading the manual, you will have received nearly the same level of training as an introductory technical college course on the topic. I intentionally purchased the 8th edition rather than the 9th because it is significantly longer (1056 pages versus 960) and I could not easily tell any advantage with the newer edition. That is, other than being 150 pages lighter than its predecessor. If you have an interest in this topic and do not want to spend the money and time for technical training, this represents a superb investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very easy to understand book on Networking for those who don't know Networking.

They aren't kidding when they said it's all the books. It's thicc and heavy. Has some humorous worded information on the pages. So far I love the movie references in the cyber security section. It is easy to read and great detail. Is some of it out dated, yea but it nothing that too detrimental. Will it help with your certifications? Yes.

4.0 out of 5 stars It’s easy to understand.

D.V.B. · March 4, 2024

This is exactly the info I wanted but the thickness of the physical book is a problem. It would be better in individual books, spiral bound.

This book is good but falls short of expectations. The author over-narrates, extending content that could’ve been one page into multiple pages, making it bulky and intimidating. Most of the content is excessive jargon with little or no direct explanations of the subject matter.

Perfect overall coverage

R.S. · July 30, 2023

The book covers a wide variety of topics in networking and seems fit for those wanting to brush up basics or begin from scratch.

Great quality. As described. Arrived on time.
