Trustworthy: A Study of 1 and 2 Kings - Bible Study Book with Video Access: Overcoming Our Greatest Struggles to Trust God

Description:

When hard times come and it seems God is deviating from the plan we assume our life should follow, we’re much more likely to want to tame God, not trust Him. It’s then that we begin to press into our ways and our own timing. No human can carry the weight of being their own god, but so many of us try.

In this 6-session study of 1 & 2 Kings, you can join
Lysa TerKeurst in Israel as she honestly reveals the places of distrust in her own heart while exploring the deeply personal applicable Scriptures that will teach us how to truly trust God.

Features:

  • Personal study to be completed between the 6 group sessions
  • Teaching videos, approximately 15–20 minutes each, via redemption code printed in the Bible study book
  • Leader helps for group discussion
Benefits
  • Identify and challenge doubts in the one true God.
  • Explore how the Old Testament applies to our lives today.
  • Learn to trust in the goodness and faithfulness of God.
Video Sessions:
  • Session 1: Introduction (25:41)—We can so easily begin to trust in things and people other than God. The people of Israel experienced this time and again. Lysa walks us through the history of God's people leading up to the moment they asked to be like everyone else and have a king. As we’ll see in this study of the ancient kings of the Bible, earthly kings pale in comparison to the King of kings, the only One worthy of our trust.
  • Session 2: Solomon (23:23)—Lysa tells the story of Solomon, who started out his reign in his father, David's, footsteps, but very quickly fell out of faithfulness to the one true God. Through relationships with many foreign women, Solomon's affections became misplaced and he built altars to foreign gods and placed his trust in what he could control. Misplaced affections got between Solomon and God and continue to be a temptation for us today.
  • Session 3: Jeroboam (19:21)—King Jeroboam misaligned his priorities, idolizing a golden calf rather than completely trusting in God and waiting on Him. In this week’s discussion, Lysa teaches us that a departure happens when we think too lowly of God and too highly of ourselves. But when we think highly of God, we think rightly of ourselves.
  • Session 4: Ahab (18:56)—Lysa talks about the consequences of sin this session as we dive in to the story of King Ahab and his wife Jezebel. Just as Ahab’s blood spilled as a consequence of sin, Jesus also had to bleed in consequence of our sin. But unlike the end of Ahab’s story, our story is victorious through Christ.
  • Session 5: Hezekiah (16:26)—Lysa discusses one of Hezekiah’s biggest accomplishments. Did he understand his accomplishment as evidence of God’s faithfulness, or did he just accept it as evidence of his own brilliance? Hezekiah failed to check his heart and accepted all the praise for himself, rather than giving the glory to God and His trustworthiness. See how his story can help us reevaluate things in our own lives, so we can kneel in greater submission to the King of kings.
  • Session 6: Josiah (14:58)—Lysa looks at the tumultuous history of the temple in Jerusalem. The temple has been built and destroyed, rebuilt and renewed only to be destroyed again. While earthly kings and kingdoms and temples all pass away, we serve the trustworthy God who is making all things new.

Hands down the most in-depth study on the Kings of the Old Testament that kept the attention to details of the live and values of the Kings.

The media could not be loaded. This Bible study has been amazing. Opened up the New Testament like I’ve never known before. Just helped ignite a yearning to dig deeper into the OT and the lives of the kings. Learned so much through this book! The cards at the back are a special touch!

I have enjoyed doing this study with a group from church. Great insight and teachings from the Bible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible study

Lyse is a great teacher that gets to the deep root of our not trusting God, even though you may think you do. It was eye opening. One of the best studies I’ve done in a very long time. I highly recommend this book but be prepared to take a real honest look within your own heart. So good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overview of I and 2 Kings

L. · October 3, 2025

I went through this study with other women from my church, and found it to be educational overall but lacking in content. 1 and 2 Kings are lengthy books, and this 6-session study skips over large segments in order to cover just the major events and selective Kings in early Israel. The study left me wanting to understand more of the context and historical events, so I am currently reading through the entire books of I and 2 Kings on my own. Lisa's book is readable, and best used to get an overview, hopefully challenging the participants to study more on their own.

Good Bible study

Video course

S.Y. · September 25, 2021

I didn't notice anywhere on the description that this book is to accompany a video study course. To get the video, it seems you have to purchase it separately. I'm still reading the book but missing alot of information.

The most amazing devotional!

A.C. · July 2, 2021

I love this devotional so much it truly is life transforming! Its interactive and thought provoking, it has seriously helped me in so many ways!

Have to buy or rent the videos for each session.

J.T. · January 31, 2021

The book itself is beautifully presented and the study looks amazing. BEWARE you have to buy or rent the videos for each session! I hadn't realised this and was doing the study alone, I can't afford the videos so think it has been a waste of money getting the book.

Awesome!

B. · February 18, 2020

Another great study! Love how these things come into my life in Gods perfect timing.

Does not coming with video access

S.K. · January 20, 2023

The study book itself looks great, and I am eager to get into using it with my Bible study group. However the book does not come with a “video access code” as listed in the description and title. So if that is important for you to have, I don’t suggest purchasing this item.
