I have an oscilloscope and wanted to get the most out of it so bought this book, I had a complicated repair to carry out on a high value car so getting it wrong was not an option, I needed to understand how to connect the cables to the item I was testing but more importantly how to set up the scope and read the findings, this book proved to be invaluable and although the car has now been repaired I find myself picking up this book and reading it some more. I have been in the motor trade all my life and this book has allowed me to learn about something that some might consider to be an area to avoid.
I highly recommend this book if you are contemplating using an oscilloscope.

It gives good information on known good waveforms. I also like the fact that it explains why the waveforms behave as they do.

Excellent book. Talks about different components and what good waveforms should look like as well as why they look the way they do. It also provides possible causes of non-conforming waveforms and what you’ll need to test them. It’s a great book for beginners. If you want to get maximum benefit from this book get under the hood and start scoping out stuff as you read.

Very well written books with a lot of detailed information but not overwhelming. Lots of good illustrations which make it easy to see what you're looking for when viewing waveforms. Information seems up-to-date and applicable to modern vehicles. I would definitely recommend this book for someone who wants to learn more about Automotive oscilloscope use.

I like this book. A lot of this I learned in shop class in high school. That was forty years ago, so an electric shop refresher is never a bad thing. Part of repairing electric or electronic sustems is understanding how they work. While this book does not tell you how to repair, it does give you basic system function which is key to diagnosing and repairing. Learning the nuances of waveforms takes time and seeing many examples to recognize a "known good." But without an understanding of the part, system, and how they function together, it won't matter if you don't understand what it is you are looking at or looking for

This will not show you how to hook up a scope or even how to set it up. It will give you KNOWN GOODS which are invaluable. If you are new to scoping this book teaches you what a good waveform should look like and why they look the way they do. From there on you can identify which circuits and waveforms look off from what you’ve learned as a known good.
