My mother loved the book , she is totally redecorating her home based on this book. The book is a beautiful book to have on the coffee table .

Loved this beautiftul book. Dorothy Draper is one of the "mothers" of modern interior design--so talened and such an interesting personality--inspiring!

Interesting book about DD life and history. Written like a novel or story and not a whole lot about her design and decorating. Not many photos of interesting projects or her design. The story of the upper crust and a long ago bygone society was sort of a waste of time. Who cares about the exclusionary families of the 1800's? Not very interesting and really no relationship to what made her "DD" and the judge of style. Some of the first hand stories were fun and interesting but so much of the history of society at the time of her parents was irrelevant. She was so talented in design and so little of that comes through in the book. Like so many of her day, the world soon says "Dorothy who"?

I am a member of the GFWCWV Rupert Woman's Club and we meet at The Greenbrier each year for GFWC Convention. I purchased two copies of this book in order to circulate among club members and later donate to our new library. Thank you!
4.0 out of 5 stars Like Gobbling Down Candy
Reading this was fun and tasty like gobbling down candy. I read it cover to cover, quick as a wink. My mother always liked Dorothy Draper. DD was before my time, but I knew she did The Greenbriar where we stayed when I was little in the sixties, and boy, was it cool!! I'd love to go back. I'd love to have my parents money and go back! Anyway, I loved what I saw there and never forgot her influence on my mother and my mother's taste. There are some fun and surprising things in the text, like the Civil War ghostie who showed up in Ms. Draper's room when she was redoing The Greenbriar. I really enjoyed this book.

Fairly well written, lots of great information about her and her life. I give it 3 stars as I was very disappointed in the lack of photographs of Dorothy's work. In order to understand the "Draper Touch" one needs to see examples of her style, her decorating, etc. There were only a a few grainy black and white photos, 1 or 2 far away shots of an interior. I was not expecting a coffee table book of photos, but this book has almost no photos at all which show her style or "touch". Not what I was hoping for.
Good book but the black and white pictures are disappointing
The genius of DD was definitely her amazing sense of colour, and the lack of colour pictures just ruined it a bit for me. Otherwise a good book.
