The Sports Medicine Patient Advisor, Third Edition, Hardcopy

Description:

The Sports Medicine Patient Advisor contains easy to copy patient education handouts. This is the book that needs to be on every health care provider's bookshelf and should be used constantly. Pre-print the topics that are common to your practice and have them readily available to give to your patients and athletes. Review the handouts with your patients and be sure they understand how to do the rehab. Your patients will really appreciate learning about their sports injuries or problems and will love getting a home rehabilitation program with a plan that tells them when they can return to their sport or activity.

The information contained in this book refers to the use of rehabilitation aids that can be found anywhere - weights in a gym or a person's home, resistance bands that can be dispensed from a provider's office or items found at home like a soup can or a hammer!

This is the resource that will improve patient satisfaction, compliance, and return to action! No patient with a sports related problem or activity related injury should leave your office without receiving a handout.

The Sports Medicine Patient Advisor has been used as an adopted textbook at many colleges and universities across the country in departments such as athletic training and kinesiology.

The Sports Medicine Patient Advisor is also useful for coaches, athletes and parents to learn about common sports injuries and how to safely return to participation. It is important to remember that this information is not a substitute for medical care and that an injured athlete needs to get appropriate attention from a sports medicine provider.

Note: The hardcopy edition has updated concussion instructions as per 2017.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book with helpful exercises with photos

Working in a rural health clinic, I don’t have physical therapy in my small clinic or in the town I work. Many of my patients can’t or don’t want to travel into the bigger city to do physical therapy. This book has coming in handy to give them exercises they can do at home to help with various conditions/injuries. I like that it has pictures and is written in easy to understand terms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for seniors

The Sports Medicine Patient Advisor, Third EditionI see a lot of seniors limping around because of nerve and muscle pain. You don't have to be an athlete to benefit from this book.In the past, I found references to this book on an Osteopath's website. The references proved to be helpful with a couple of my muscle and nerve problems. Since the references are no longer on the website, I purchased the book.I have found this book to be a valuable resource for seniors. Once you have been diagnosed by your doctor, it can provide useful information concerning specific stretches to help with your physical therapy. It is not a medical text book, but it can provide enough information to help the patient on the road to recovery. The book covers ailments of all the major muscle groups from the neck down. I have flagged numerous sections in the book for my personal referencing.Being a senior active in multiple sports, the book gives me greater peace of mind. I have found information concerning a few issues that I always wondered about, but my primary care physician could not provide adequate answers. It has helped with my sciatic nerve pain, strained groin muscle, and tight iliotibial band. The key is to have a quality stretch everyday. It may take weeks or months to reach your goal, but you will eventually see improvement in range of motion and absence of pain. This book does not replace a thorough evaluation by a well trained physical therapist. Your physical therapist should demonstrate the range of motion that you should have - that range of motion will be your goal. This book will be your at home reference.

This book is amazing! It's full of physical therapy exercises & stretches to help reduce chronic pain due to common musculoskeletal conditions. The book is divided into regions of the body, making ailments easy to find. It contains all the most common conditions. It also includes a quick definition of the illness and the nerves/muscles involved.Certified sports doctors at my clinic routinely use this book to educate patients. They copy select pages to create hand-outs for patients to take home. It's a great way for patients to get pain relief while they wait for their physical therapy referrals!

I regularly use this book in my Family Medicine office. Alot of patients come to see me with different aches and pains, and these pages are very easy to photocopy and provide to the patients. It gives a few sentences on anatomy, a picture of the anatomy showing the problem area, examples of the symptoms (pain with a certain motion, for example), care instructions (ice for a few days, for example), and good physical therapy diagrams to help heal the problem and prevent it from happening again. A very useful resource.

This book is a great book to use with patients! It gives mechanisms and quick home exercise. It reinforces the diagnosis, and gives your patient something other than verbal instructions to take home for later. I recommend having the binding cut and spiraled at staples or something in order to make copies for handouts easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars My doctor kept copying pages out of this book for me, so I bought my own !

J.C. · January 31, 2020

My doctor would give me copied sheets from this book when he'd tell me how to recover from an injury. Finally I smartened up and bought my own copy. Shows the nature of muscular, tendon injuries and which exercises are safe to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality advice, quality printing

R.L. · December 22, 2022

I purchased my own copy after rotating with a sports med physician who makes copies and hands them out to his patients. It is printed on heavy paper. Sturdy binding. Easy to understand instructions for most patients.
