The numbers of young children entering private preschools and the public school system exhibiting sensory processing disorders is increasing every year and currently are estimated to affect 12 to 17 percent of all children in the United States according to the Sensory Integration Education and Research Foundation. The collaborative work of Christy Isbell (Program Directory and Associate Professor for the Occupational Therapy Program at Milligan College in Tennessee) and Rebecca Isbell (Director of Tennessee's Center of Excellence in Early Childhood Learning), "Sensory Integration: A Guide For Preschool Teachers" focuses on providing teachers with the tools they need to help children whose brains are not correctly processing information brought in by their senses. This book helps you identify sensory issues with kids. I let one of my son's teachers read it and she loved it! She said it was an eye opener for her. I observed her changing her room to address sensory issues with some of the kids in her class. Great! I would recommend it to anyone who has or who has worked with young kids.

This is a great introductory text for understanding Sensory integration and processing. It explains things in simple terms that are understandable with good examples, and has a nice section on techniques for supporting children with Sensory processing issues. Very readable and a great resource.

This was basic enough to copy or share selections with parents and simple enough for everyone to understand it but it had lots of good information about a subject that is useful for those dealing with pre kindergarten children.
