Description:

An unprecedented publication showcasing Gucci as never before, including thought-provoking essays, commentaries, and authoritative anecdotes along with previously unpublished contemporary and archival photographs. Published in conjunction with the opening of the new Gucci Museum in Florence, Gucci is the ultimate celebration of the world-renowned fashion house. Told through a loose grouping of words, concepts, shapes, and moods, the book tells its story through new conceptual forms and the free links between images, symbols, and objects. Edited by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini, with essays and inserts by contributors including Katie Grand, Peter Arnell, Rula Jebreal, Christopher Breward and Stefano Micelli, Gucci: The Making Of is a dynamic record of a much-coveted brand that will be a must this season for anyone with a love of fashion and an interest in contemporary culture. This comprehensive volume showcases the genius of the fashion house through an exclusive lens with inside looks into the inspirations behind the design.
This gorgeous book designed by Arnell offers an in-depth look into Gucci’s origins, identity, influence, and innovation, including fabrication methods and appropriation of signature materials, past and present, and its influence among high society and Hollywood. The book is a heartfelt and personalized tribute to the heritage and influence of this iconic, multifaceted brand.
In recognition of its ongoing partnership with UNICEF and the release of this luxury edition, Gucci will make a donation of US $250,000 to support UNICEF's Schools for Africa initiative.

"This is a busy year for the Italian brand: celebrating 90 years, a new museum in Florence, Italy and this book, which shows inspirations. The piece reflects the label's roots, showing pictures of the Guccio and Rodolfo Gucci store, and more." ~InStyle

It's delicious. Especially after you take the cover off of it. It's a beautiful embossed black. Loveeeeeee!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book Fit For Gucci Lovers!

I love fashion coffee table books, particularly when they are well-designed with great photography. This book focuses on the Gucci empire right up to 2011 so if you like current Gucci, this book doesn't cover it. However, it's a great chronicle of the business from their products to their advertising campaigns, promotions and their famous clientele. It does get a little TOO deep promoting its creative director from 2005-2014, Frida Giannini BUT not enough to ruin the experience, especially if you like the Gucci of the past anyway. There's a good balance of text and photos that I must mention because I've seen my share of fashion books with too much text and really, what is the point of dropping money on a fashion book with few pictures?I love this book and you fashion fans will enjoy it too!

This book amazing! And so beautiful to display. I purchased it for my brother and I might need to get it myself. It’s enriched with history, even has fabrics they used for monumental products! This is a must.

Gucci The Making Of is a must-have for every fashion lover. Personally I always have been ambivalent about the brand: it seems to move between the poles of Italian vulgarity and true style/beauty. But Gucci is fascinating regardless of aesthetic preferences. The thing I love about this book is that it looks like your average coffee table tome (which it is at one level) but is overflowing with information and essays which place the fashion house in the right context. As a historical overview the book is extremely thorough: everything from business, shops, advertisements, signature symbols and patterns is presented in illustrations and text.I only have three minor points of criticism: I would have liked to see more reproductions of the legendary 1997 Mario Testino campaign. There is a slight overexposure of contemporary celebrities wearing Gucci towards the end of the book. And lastly I find it questionable the way fragrances like the great but discontinued Nobile are written out of history in the perfume chapter.
