The Singer/The Song/The Finale (The Singer Trilogy 1-3)

Description:

"... I found in a university bookstore a trilogy of books that impacted my life so deeply that―twenty-five years later―I find myself still quoting lines and discussing concepts of truth from them. Literature like The Singer Trilogy will live―like Milton's Paradise Lost and James Weldon Johnson's God's Trombones. The Singer must never be allowed to be out of print. Every generation needs to read it." – Gloria Gaither, recording artist

Experience the Story of Christ Like Never Before with Calvin Miller’s Timeless Trilogy

Hundreds of thousands have already thrilled to this extraordinary retelling of a life unmatched in human history. Through the story of the Singer, his Song and his battles with the World Hater, Calvin Miller has created a work full of life. Now you can find the complete, powerful tale of incarnation and redemption in one volume, with all three of Calvin Miller's books together: The Singer, The Song, and The Finale.

The Singer retells the story of Christ through an allegorical and poetic narrative of a Singer whose Song could not be silenced. Miller's work reinvigorated Christian literature and offered believers and seekers the world over a deeply personal encounter with the gospel.

Book two, The Song, is a poetic narrative in the tradition of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. Miller tells the story of Anthem and Everyman who leave the Great Walled City and travel to Urbis, the city of the Poet King, where followers of the Singer are martyred for their faith, envisioning parallels to the Book of Acts.

In the third book in the trilogy, The Finale, Miller tells the story of the Singer's final battle with World Hater and envisions in dynamic prose poetry the winding up of history on Terra One and the creation of Terra Two in an artistic retelling of the book of Revelation.

This magnificent reimagining of the story of Christ and his church gives young and old alike the opportunity to be immersed in the good news.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"While Pilgrim's Progress is an allegory of the Christian life, The Singer is an allegory of Scripture itself. Calvin Miller, a Southern Baptist pastor and professor, walks readers through the story of Christ in this allegorical tale for young and old alike."

-- Towers, SBTS, December - January 2015

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing allegory

First of all I read the singer when I was in high school. I graduated in 1976. This is an awesome book because he took the life of Christ and if anyone has any interest in music all the better. It’s deep but it’s an easy read there is not a bad language but some imagery in the last part of the trilogy that you may or may not want your teenager to read. Personally I would have no problem having my teenagers reading it and I raised for teenagers. This book is so deep it’s unfathomable. I don’t know how to describe it you can read it quickly it’s an easy read but I would suggest you read it slowly and really taken the captions that are before each chapter. Awesome book and if you don’t get anything out of it the first time was it down give yourself a little space then read it again I guarantee You you won’t be sorry. I look forward to reading others of his work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classical rendition of the New Testament

I love the style. Intriguing the mind and heart to work harder to catch the meaning...combining stories carefully interwoven from many layers of history into a tale of the battle of Good and Evil at their core.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful

A most compelling way to read again a true story told in such a creative and powerful way.

5.0 out of 5 stars A poetic retelling of a familiar story.

L.K. · June 26, 2024

This book was poetic and meaningful. It was unlike any allegory or retelling I've encountered. It takes the Biblical gospels and Acts and condenses them into a whimsical fantasy-style tale that brings new interest and intrigue to the well-known stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great service, 3-books-in-1!

I was excited to find this allegory again! I have an older set that was falling apart so getting the Trilogy in one book is great. If you enjoyed Pilgrims Progress you will like this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another way to love the Bible

R. · September 25, 2020

I first found this in a second hand store for 50 cents and thought why not , for 50 cents if it sucks I won't feel bad about it . What happened is I couldn't stop reading it so I actually read it twice . Everybody at least knows a little about the Bible , and once you start reading this and start putting the parallels and descriptions together with the way he words it , for me it was fun to read and has me wanting to go back to the actual Bible and re-read it , not in patches but start to finish and that's not a bad thing. I promise you'll enjoy it. If not write me a mean reply.

My second reading of Calvin Miller's 1975 very poetic trilogy on the work of Christ. A very entertaining read and the 3 in 1 book is a value. A Spirit filled fantasy, similar to C.S. Lewis works but more poetic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Insightful

This is a powerful, epic poem that brings the story of Christ alive in a new way. Wonderfully written and beautifully expressed, the Singer Trilogy is something I find myself coming back and re-reading over the years. And each reading brings new insights. This is a Masterpiece! JDM
