As a Sunday School teacher of 30+ years and a Children's Ministry Pastor of 18+ years I have seen my fair share of coloring pictures, more than I can count. I have personally witnessed thousands of children (1st-6th grade) color them. NEVER once has a child complained about a picture being too detailed, NOT ONCE. In fact, I have heard the opposite. They prefer more elaborate pictures. But I do hear adults say "we need very simple pictures with wide-open white spaces" for the kids. Why is this??? Why do we dumb-down children’s coloring pictures? Is it to protect the child’s self-esteem because they may color outside the lines? It seems we should be more concerned with creating what a child can learn from the coloring picture that creates the child’s “normal.” In real life what we see is real, when we look at a car we see the whole car, not just a few tires. When we look at a classroom filled with children, we don’t just see one child. It's why PIXAR spends hundreds of millions of dollars creating the most elaborate life-like art in their films for kids. It's why Marvel and DC coloring books, marketed to kids, are fully detailed. I believe that a coloring picture should be worth a thousand words, not just a few. And as far as the idea of staying inside the lines of the picture, I believe that it is more important for a child to understand as much as possible about the story behind the picture. WITH ALL THAT SAID... I think that this is what happened to this coloring book. An ADULT decided that THIS NEW version of The Action Bible Coloring book needed "very simple pictures with wide-open white spaces." It's a shame seeing Sergio's pictures neutered removing all the personality and beauty that a child would love. Sometimes the experts are not the experts. Go get the original version released in 2019 (pictured next to "new version"). Oh... and I'm not hating on you David C. Cook / The Action Bible. I love what you do most of the time. :) :) :)
