5.0 out of 5 stars Appeals to young children on many levels
This is my daughter's favorite book. She is 15 months old, so some of the content may escape her, but she adores looking at the photographs of other young children (with which the book is filled.) My daughter is mixed race and she seems to especially appreciate the fact that the book truly does feature children of many different "shades" (the term the book uses); she seems to have identified with 2 other little girls pictured in the book and often points to their pictures and then to herself. I think the book is the best type of children's book: it discusses a complex topic at a pretty sophisticated level (the book acknowledges that we do all look different, but suggests that traditional racial categories are a terrible and destructive way to describe this difference), by using simple language that doesn't tax toddler attention spans. A really great addition to our library.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Young Children
I love the photos and the words in this book. An important thing to teach that people come in all different shades and colors. Very nicely done. Gave to my 1 year old granddaughter.
5.0 out of 5 stars A really good book with a siPle
My biracial son had been wondering why he didn’t look like his father. His dad is his hero and this book was perfect for helping explain that people are different colors and everyone is special. He loves pointing to the children that look like him as well as his dad and I. It’s perfect for introducing different races especially if you have a biracial child.
5.0 out of 5 stars Love the Message
These books are quality made and the photographs are exceptional. We like the inclusive, accepting message taught in this book specifically. Well done!
5.0 out of 5 stars My Toddler Loves It
If you’re looking for a book to introduce your child to other shades of people, this is it. It’s simple, baby and toddler simple. My 2 year old loves it. I can stop reading and he picks up where I left off! He loves this book and begs me to read it every night and I love that it’s exposing my son to other shades besides mine, my husband’s, and his. Great book!
4.0 out of 5 stars They should change the title
The book is great! But the title is not. How about All Colors Of People? I thought the whole point was having different colored skin doesn’t mean you’re a different kind of person…
5.0 out of 5 stars So sweet.
This is a nice size board book that's easy for small hands, and the photos are beautiful. My granddaughter loves it and there's no age too young to teach respect for all shades of people.
5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful showcase of different skin tones ♥️
This book is so lovely! It has really bright and vibrant pictures, it certainly showcases all different skin colors, and the pages about there being many colors within the same family makes me so happy (our family is like that!). It is my son's favorite book. The book has taken quite a beating (my son likes to chew his books and bend the covers backwards) but once it bites the dust I plan to purchase another.
great pictures horrible choice of words
this book has very awkward and inappropriate wording. it labels the kids by their “shade” using words like coffee, almond and golden. there is way to much emphasis on “shades” i used a sharpie to black out the “shades” and wrote different story. the images are great though. the last page says “all shades of kids play together” i changed it to “all kids play together”. i was going to maybe return but i really liked the pictures so decided to just change the words
Not a board book. Pages too thin
Whilst a great book, I would not describe this as a board book. Every page is thinner and my little one was easily able to bend it shortly after using it, which defeats the reason of buying the board book version and has obviously damaged it.
Lovely book
Love realistic books with pictures of all the different kind of kids. My toddler is fascinated by them
