5.0 out of 5 stars Learning knots for outdoor climbing? Buy this book.

l. · October 7, 2014

This is a great little book. There is a page for every knot used in climbing, complete with diagrams for how to tie the knots, and instructions about their best (and worst) uses. The book even includes knots that should never be used in climbing, so that you can recognize what to avoid. It tells you how to improvise a harness if the need arises, how to tie off a damaged section of rope, and when to use a Prussik vs a Klemheist. The diagrams are easy to follow, and the explanations are clear and helpful. Every climber should get this book. This should not be your only guide to climbing outdoors, though, since it does not give much information about self-rescue or how and where to set anchors. It's really just about knots.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most comprehensive book on the sport of climbing

A. · December 24, 2016

I bought this book with some paracord to learn how to tie knots and ropes to start practicing some amateur climbing. I must say this is the best book to learn how to tie all your essential climbers knots. Not only does it show you how to tie all the knots you need to know through illustrations, the book also shows you all the knots primary and secondary uses, rope care, which rope to use and buy, as well as rope terminology, which is actually quite fun. This book will fulfil all your needs when just learning about how to tie some cool knots or trying to get into the sport of climbing. This book is a must have.

I was looking for a book for tree-rigging, but...

A.C. · November 19, 2009

I was looking for how to use ropes and knots for tree-rigging in the garden or park.In Japan, such a hobby tree-rigging is popular to some people: office workers and urban citizens. In seeking books for such people, I chose this book, but it is not so useful. I need rigging a tree only ropes and other climbing devices in the permitted park.
