Little Raccoon

Description:

Meet Little Raccoon.

"Little Raccoon was little, but he was brave."

Little Raccoon is a precocious and curious young creature. Whether facing down the scary thing in the pool, exploring the world beyond his familiar woods with a pair of young skunks, or baby-sitting two pesky chipmunks, Little Raccoon manages to find himself in all sorts of predicaments. But Little Raccoon is also brave, and his bravery-not to mention his irrepressible happy spirit-saves the day every time.

These three adventures of Little Raccoon, originally published as three separate books, are gathered in one collection and reillustrated in lively and humorous black-and-white drawings.

From Booklist

Gr. 2-4. First published separately in the 1960s and 1970s, the three stories in this short, amusing chapter book feature a little raccoon who is becoming increasingly self-reliant. In "The Thing in the Pool," Little Raccoon looks into a pool of water and is frightened by his reflection until he learns to befriend it. "The Outside World" shows him venturing beyond the wood for the first time to explore the mysteries outside a house where humans live. In "No Trouble at All," he looks after two frisky chipmunks who run circles around him until he learns to take charge. Cushman's appealing black-and-white illustrations reflect the warmth and humor of the stories. A good choice for children just venturing into the juvenile fiction section. Carolyn Phelan

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book

This is a great book for beginner chapter readers. IT is also good for children with Visual problems for the words are large enough and the Book has enough space between sentences which is a bonus.

5.0 out of 5 stars an old friend returns

When I was a child growing up in California in the sixties (not always a pleasant experience, with all the hippies and dope floating around) "Little Raccoon and the Outside World" was one of my favorite books. I still have a copy somewhere but I haven't been able to find it; maybe I threw it away by mistake. Until recently I did not know that "Little Raccoon" was a series; I saw a copy of "Little Raccoon and No Problem At All" at a thrift store but didn't buy it. Now I hope Little Raccoon and I can renew our friendship. Sure, it's children's literature, but I'll take Little Raccoon over Harry Potter any day.

I loved this book! It is a captivating book. There are three chapters, almost 3 seperate books for a young reader. Little raccoon is such a great character - always getting into trouble or somehow finding trouble. It is actually a chapter book that young children can read to themselves - my copy is 64 pages. I happened to read a chapter a night to my 7 year old at bedtime; but she easily could have read it on her own.
