Raising Men, Not Boys: Shepherding Your Sons to be Men of God

Description:

How to raise a godly man in a godless world

Perhaps there has never been a more challenging time to raise children than in today’s culture. Parents are having to address challenges that their parents never had to with them. And while the core elements to raising children are the same, parents need wisdom for applying them to this day and age.

That’s what this book is about: navigating the times and raising a generation of men on godly principles—sons who are ready, able, and motivated to represent God during their days of sojourning on this earth. Pastor and author Mike Fabarez will help parents pass the faith on to their sons, in prayer that the promises of God extend to the third and fourth generations… and beyond.

Parents will be equipped to:

  • Envision their son’s future every day
  • Set his spiritual trajectory
  • Build a home that grows godly men
  • Address the rebellion in their son’s heart
  • Prepare him to face the world and contribute to it
  • Help their son toward a right view of play and leisure
  • Navigate the teenage years

There is an epidemic of grown men with the maturity of young boys. Be a parent who saves your child from prolonged adolescence. Scripture says, “The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him” (Prov. 23:24). Children are a gift from the Lord. Read
Raising Men, Not Boys to steward the gift of parenting and shepherd your sons to be men of God.

Praise for Raising Men, Not Boys

Christians understand that God created human beings as male and female—for His glory and for our good. The differences between the sexes are not matters of evolutionary accident, but are clear indications of God’s sublime and perfect design for human happiness. Yet in our age, confusing cultural signals have led many boys and young men to be uncertain and unaware of their masculinity and proper role in the home and in society. This brave new book by Mike Fabarez is a faithful guide for parents who want to raise their young boys to become true men. Full of Scripture-informed wisdom, this is a message parents and young boys need to hear. May God make us faithful as we seek to lead our boys to become true Christian men.

Raising Men, Not Boys is an absolutely brilliant look at specifics relevant to boys of all ages and the most complete book about raising boys I’ve read. If your son is an infant, read it now. If he is older, read it now. Read sections out loud to him so he understands himself and why you’re making the decisions you are. Underline sections, fold over page corners, and remember to come back to it again and again as your boys experience more of life. Moms should absolutely read this. Differences between boys and girls are very real! Dads should read it, too, of course. Your sons will become men motivated to live for God and equipped to glorify Him if you read, believe, and put into practice just the truths from chapter 2. Mike Fabarez’s explanation of the elements of the gospel and what’s relevant for spiritual growth and wellness is the best I’ve read. This chapter is worth the entire price of the book. Read it all, though. You’ll be glad you did.

In this marvelous handbook, veteran pastor and experienced father Mike Fabarez provides a deeply probing discussion of various areas every Christian parent of sons should consider in their raising of those boys to become the men God wants them to be. Pastor Fabarez has thought through this subject carefully and includes so many valuable, crucial, and insightful reflections on areas responsible Christian parents would be wise to implement. Let me put it simply: Raising sons? Get this book! You’ll be so grateful that you did.

You can tell a lot about a man by the children he raises. Fabarez’s sons tell a definitive story about an intentional father. Turning boys into men doesn’t happen by accident. This character comes about by the shepherding of a devoted father. Others now have the chance to learn from him in Raising Men, Not Boys. Read this volume and join the ranks of intentional fathers.

This is a must have for every parent !!Hardest part about being married to police officer is playing the role of mom and dad 4-5 days a week. 4-5 days a week my husband sleeps during the day, gets up and ready for work and is completely absent from our home. This leaves the responsibility of biblical parenting and training of our children 100% of that time on me. We want to raise men not boys and this book is excellent biblical instruction and support for us. So that I as a mother raising twin boys, often on my own and a challenge of itself, can do so biblically. I am so thankful for pastor Mike Fabarez and all that he's poured into this book!"Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not set your heart on putting him to death" prov. 19:18Who sets their heart on putting their son to death? The answer : a shortsighted parent who fails to diligently provide correction and direction to they boy. As I said, all of this spells love. We enforce consequences and provide coaching in right behavior to our sons because we care about them, just as God cares for us"

5.0 out of 5 stars Biblical YET Practical

C.W.M. · December 28, 2017

This book is gives Biblical and practical advice in how to cultivate a young boy in becoming a man with strong character, work ethic and life balance. It talks about what an ideal family life should look like however yet provides great side bars when life isn't perfect ( Ex. single parenting). This is a fair depiction of parents loving their children by giving chores, having them rise at a reasonable hour, show hospitality to others, the use of discipline, and requiring respect for others and yet allowing their children to take time out and play and be boys.

For reference point: I have three boys... and a daughter. This book was humbling but good and had lots of very practical and theological lessons and things that a parent should really employ. The one major critique.....The writer has only two kids.. I often think, add two more and then tell me how you do. When we had two kids life was easy. Typically what I see in families of two kids is the personalities and interests align with one of the two parents... and then when you add the 3rd and 4th God really throws in the wild cards.

I've anticipated this book for months and it did not disappoint. Each chapter is a practical guide for parents touching on many aspects of life from childhood to teenage years. We have a society complaining about our youth and the next generation and this book addresses why. Parenthood is a gift from the Lord, I pray this book can stir up parents to really look at their responsibilities in raising children and enjoy seeing the fruit produced when these principles are applied in their homes or their communities.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to Prepare Your Sons for Ultimate Success

C.P. · September 9, 2017

Raising Men Not Boys Is full of both theological and practical guidance for fathers who want to raise godly sons. Dr. Fabarez has raised two sons of his own and uses both biblical truth and his own experience to help fathers (and mothers) to lovingly teach, discipline, and guide their sons. This little book will be a great gift for parents at every stage -- even for prospective parents. I plan to keep this book nearby and will refer to it again an again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Biblical wisdom and practical application. An important addition to your home library.

Having grown up with sisters, I've often felt lost when it comes to raising my boys. This book provides excellent practical application for bringing up boys who are confident, capable, and love and fear the Lord. The Biblical wisdom imparted is timely and necessary. I intend to keep this book handy as I guide and teach my little ones through each stage of life. Highly recommend as a resource in Christian parenting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical Godly Wisdom for Raising the Next Generation of Men
