This is a high quality book in a sea of mediocre texts on distilled beverages. The aim here seems to be the dedicated enthusiast or pro who is willing to take the time to read somewhat technical material in order to render a superb product. The packaging and design of the book are fantastic and well illustrated. I've come to the distilling world from beer brewing and have found many of the popular texts to be either overly kitsch or light on technical information but this book is an exception. I really wish there were more like it.

I received this for a Christmas present and unfortunately it is over my head. I was imagining something different, perhaps more on the lines of infusing small batches. I gave this five stars because, from what I can tell, it is an excellent book for someone who is going to create their own still and process fruit brandy. But after reading about mash tun and alcohol percentages, I fear my eyes glazed over. I imagine my husband will find this book right up his alley!

the only 'recipe' listed is a bulleted step-by-step process. i wanted to actually create something but was unable to. My quest in distilling has been long and arduous; from trying to decide if I should build or buy, to actually finding recipes. Difficult, as I didn't want a large volume apparatus and I didn't want to spend a lot of money up front. Now what? Well, I visited my local brew store-The Lil Ol Winemaker-and they apprised me of a 1 gallon electric countertop distiller! Eureka! For around $300 I can get started. So, when it comes down to it, this book was not able to offer me great assistance in distilling. It is beautiful, just not for me solely bc of the lack of recipes.

I've owned the German language version of this book for quite a while. Even though I speak and read Deutsch fluently I still was thrilled to find this great book on distilling in an English language edition. While reading the English edition I've kept the German version along side it and occasionally will cross reference it. The English edition is very accurately translated and should be on the bookshelf of all English speaking distillers, professional and hobbyist.mach's gut Sepp!

Experienced distillers will pick up the odd point, but it's not a serious text book for them. Nothing like the depth that I was hoping for. There is far more detailed, better structured & comprehensive information on this subject available for free on the internet.OK book for total beginners wanting an introduction to the subject

This book has it all. I has great information about rare stills and the evolution of techniques. It has alot of great information that will apply to more than just brandy. I would definately reccomend it. It is written to be very interesting; Im a guy that falls asleep reading but this one keeps me up late.

A concise and informative book for the novice with lots of pictures to aid in understanding. I have a much better understanding of how brandy production works and now feel comfortable to actually ask questions for an even better understanding.

I love the book, its got great detail, the pictures are fantastic, and its packed with information on all aspects of distilling. So far I am only a few chapters in but it already seems to be a wealth of knowledge.
Just like Brandy, take small sips of the information and savour them.
If you already make fruit wines and would like to know how companies turn wines into brandies, then this is a good place to start. Has some technical information, but can be easily read by those just seeking the knowledge or those looking to start up distilling in the future.
Good book.

Excellent book, it explains all needed knowledge to make your own brandy.
This book has a nice hardcover and the pages are filled with pictures
This book has a nice hardcover and the pages are filled with pictures, illustrations and tables. It has a nice mix of basic and technical information. It is geared more toward those starting out in commercial fruit distilling than to the amateur home distiller. It is none the less a good book and though I don't have a budding distilling enterprise I have chosen to keep it as a reference.
