5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Boundweave WOW!

E.J.M. · August 29, 2017

This is a comprehensive book on boundweave. The book is written in a college text format which you can follow along to create awesome samplers or expand to make anything you want. I consider myself an intermediate level weaver and found this book very informative. I will be weaving from the drafts and samples for many years. I cannot say enough good things about this book. On the other side, don't think you are going open this book to any page, pick a draft and weave. You have to be willing to understand the structure principles and how the book is written. (Read the introduction!)

5.0 out of 5 stars great book

This is a great book, but it does require the video. After I watched the Boundweave Video, then this book was just perfect. I am weaving the sampler from the video (also in the book) I am amazed watching the pattern develop. After the video, I am ready to tackle some of these patterns.

this is a very technical book with great illustrations. think textbook. the author knows her stuff but does not reveal her personality in any great way . this is not fluffy reading. it twisted my brain into 3d torture, but i now have a full understanding of this weave structure. i was able to produce my own bound weave projects with confidence.

This book is one to study, not just gloss over. So many good ideas but will take some time to think about it all!

3.0 out of 5 stars Exhaustive and a bit exhaustig

G.J. · January 21, 2013

I've been a hobby weaver for over 25 years, and for the last ten have been a member of a weekly weaving group. We recently decided to all try this book together, sequentially weaving the projects in it as a sampler. It's been an interesting experience. It may be that we're just not at the level where the author expects us to be. The text itself seems to be very thorough, but it is written in the manner of a college textbook, with a lot of new terminology on almost every page, sometimes to the point that it feels like we're cramming for an exam!Unless you're a very experienced weaver and/or have a young agile brain, along with this book you might want to consider getting the video ("Boundweaving",by the same author) that helps explain the various variations in this technique as throw-by-throw demonstrations. Also, go into this technique with full knowledge that it is not for the impatient... being very densely weft-faced, the weaving goes very, very slowly because you'll need to make four different throws of the shuttle for every row of the design that would take one pattern throw plus tabby in the related and more familiar Rosepath.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Weaving Book!

This is a quite in depth book on weaving and I love it. There is enough weaving information in this book to learn for years to come. The information is concise and the photographs are inspiring. I want to get the video now.

All you ever needed to know about weft-faced pattern weaves

A.C. · May 23, 2013

Krokbragd - I wanted in depth understanding of how it works and how it relates to other weft-faced weaves. That was the starting point. Nancy Hoskins book contains far more information than I will ever need, but she offers the enthusiastic weft-faced weaver detailed instructions for a wide range of techniques, simple charts and colourful illustrationsNot only do I now have the knowledge I was seeking, but I also have all the information I need to explore and develop weft faced pattern weaves in the future. However, it is a big book and if you only want to dip you toe in the water, it might be better to borrow it rather than buy it

any weaving book is good for me

a let down

J.V. · June 1, 2015

I hate spiral bound books! They always fall apart and are often quickly torn. First strike! The illustrations are on the weak side and explainations are very much for the American reader oriented, coming across almost childish. Then, the way the book is paced and designed, it clearly is more of a course book, rather than a reference. For some this may be good, for the initiated in weaving extremely frustrating, as it takes so long to get to the point, and then it is a bit unclear.Every book has some positive points and this book will give some examples of weave-analysis (old textiles), as well as offering some projects. For the absolute beginner with patience and time, it may be a great way to familarise oneself with some weft-faced weaves. It would be more usefull if the author went into larger applications, such as rugs, where these weaves are paticularly interesting.
