4.0 out of 5 stars Immediate Post-war History

If you are looking for a number of photographs of 350th Fighter Group airplanes, this is not the book for you. This paperback book, printed by Schiffer publishing is a reprint of the original 1945 unit history and focuses on the immediate recap of the Group's exploits in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations. There are photographs throughout which illustrate the conditions they operated in, some aircraft photos and most importantly, photographs of the men that made those airplanes make history, both on the ground and in the air. There is a full honor roll of those killed while the unit was overseas along with a roster of those who served in the unit.Highly recommended if you're researching P-47 units in the MTO.

4.0 out of 5 stars Only book I have seen on this unit

Good book on this unit history during WW II, it cover the unit from start to finish and the campaign it under took in WWII. Many pictures and good color drawing of the aircraft as the unit switched from one aircraft to another. The end of this book covered many mission and totals for the unit, the reader gets to see the many accomplishments and casualities this unit suffered

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is a total waste of money.

You would think that a book about a fighter group would have something about the aircraft; descriptions, pictures, profiles. After thumbing through, you realize that perhaps it had no aircraft. Description of the group is not much better than a bad Wiki article, there are no pictures of interest and a lot of fuzzy pictures from a gun camera of ground attacks.Another Schiffer effort to have nothing between two covers and charge money for the nothing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Facsimile Versions Just Don't Cut It

P.H.N. · November 26, 2010

Where there's no such thing as a no-star rating, this gets one star. Buyers will be disappointed with this book: for collectors, the facsimile version is valueless, for historians, it is scant on detail and, well, it will frustrate modelers and enthusiasts completely. But, it's probably worth remembering that this is a copy of the Group's immediate post-War 'glossy'; replete with blurred gun camera shots and poor contrast B&Ws. Probably because that's all there was in the G2 shed at the time. The unit has a proud story to tell, but this book doesn't do it. It largely ignores its own MOH winner (LT Raymond Knight) other than in the Honor Roll and the afterthought on the inside cover sheet, ignores completely the P-39 and P-38 period and sort of starts mid-stream.There's a good story to be told here and this Group is a worthwhile subject. Over to you Mr Ivie / Scutts / Stanaway / Lambert.
