Review:
5.0 out of 5 stars A new favorite Jaime Jo Wright book! Absolutely amazing!
OVERALL STAR RATING: 5/5CLEAN RATING: 5/5Oh my…just…how can I write this review!? I’m speechless. I don't know how Jaime Jo Wright comes up with such spooky and unique storylines that leave me guessing and my jaw hanging open at the end every single time. This one was so well plotted out, I’m absolutely stunned. One of my main 2025 goals is to read through Jaime’s entire backlist. Eight more to go, not including a couple of new releases coming in the new year as well. If anything, I know that when I pick up one of her books, I’m guaranteed an awesome dual timeline story where suspense just builds and builds with each chapter. I think Castle Moreau is now tied with Withers Farm for my favorite.A mysterious castle built in the early 1800s has been residence to many mysterious generations of the Tremblay and Moreau family. In 1870, Daisy Francois takes on a housekeeping position at the castle where a renowned, elderly gothic horror author lives. Mimicking this timeline, we follow Cleo Clemmons in the present day, who also finds herself at Castle Moreau helping another ageing member of this peculiar family. The way these two timelines kept intersecting and as a reader we continued to be able to connect the dots was quite riveting. I was glued to the pages as unexpected characters came into play and the stories of women who had VANISHED from the castle for decades upon decades came to light. Just when you think things couldn’t possibly get weirder, they do.I can’t say too much because I don’t want to reveal the secrets of this beautiful work of fiction, but if you like gothic castle vibes, cold cases, elderly and eccentric FMCs, a touch of romance, and stories that are tied up with Biblical truths and messages of hope, this book is for you. The last 25% absolutely blew my mind and I was on the verge of tears. I can’t recommend this one enough and I’m so happy to have discovered Jaime’s work this past year.
5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST Stories I've Ever Read!!!
The Vanishing at Castle Moreau by Jaime Jo Wright is definitely going on my best-reads-of-2024 list. This book is SO amazing. I was hooked from the very first line, and hated when I had to put this book down. I was terrified, I was creeped out, I cried, I hoped, and I totally related to the characters and the themes. Man, SO, SO good! I don’t even know where to begin with this review, to be quite honest, because there are many important details and aspects that could be spoilers. You know those movies you watch or those books you read that when you finish you’re kind of sad because you know you can never watch them or read them again for the first time? Yeah, that’s 100% how I feel about this book. I know my reviews are usually more: more on character, more on theme, but I just can’t. I refuse to, in any way, accidentally ruin the suspense, the mystery, or the perfect ending. So, this is where I am leaving this review. The Vanishing at Castle Moreau is the best blend of historical and contemporary, mystery and suspense, and character growth and thematic discussion. If you haven’t read this book yet, read it ASAP. You will not be disappointed in this story!I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Bolo.com on April 3, 2023, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

4.5-5 stars!Holy Crappoli. This book was so freakin good! It makes me wanna flick my past self in the forehead for not binging all Miss Jaime's books before.I recommend this and all her books for fans of Riley Sager. I've been craving a thriller that is reminiscent of Mr. Sager's work with faith elements and it's hard. 90% of thrillers, especially christian, are police procedural and that's usually my vibe but I definitely needed a break! This book (and all her works) is dual timeline, going back and forth between 1870 and present day Wisconsin. In 1870, we follow Daisy Francois who is running from her past and takes a job as a housemaid at the infamous Castle Moreau. She is living with a famous author who's writing (and personality) is reminiscent of Edgar Allen Poe. She encounters many weird and unsettling characters within the walls of this beautiful, haunting castle. In present day, we follow Cleo Clemmons, who takes a job at the Castle to also escape the horrors of her past. She is hired by a tabloid playboy to help his grandma face her hoarding and clean out and organize the castle. He is counting on her anonymity and she will happily oblige as she is also hoping for anonymity. It's a teensy bit confusing because I would get pulled into one girl's story, only to switch to the other one's story and have to try to remember what is happening in that current timeline. Especially because they are both similiar. But I was still living it anyway. I seriously FLEW through this book. I could not put it down.I would HIGHLY recommend picking this up if you're ready for spooky season, but you have to be picky with thrillers because you can normally see the twist coming a mile away. I promise you, you will NOT see this one!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story. Highly recommend.
Great story, vividly written. I was drawn in to the characters adventures and was surprised at the ending.
5.0 out of 5 stars Sensatiomal!!
You're going to love this story. I couldn't put it down, as it is with all of Jamie Jo's novels.
5.0 out of 5 stars Read it!
Love this book! Kept me guessing through the whole story.
The conclusion isn’t well thought out which is a shame
The vanishing at castle Moreau is a dark, brooding & richly atmospheric gothic. You can 100% see that many pieces of classic gothic literature has influenced Wright. It definitely had a very old gothic feel to it. For me it definitely stood out compared to other modern gothics. The story quickly enveloped me & sucked me into to the dark gothic delight that is castle Moreau. I would further describe this book just like any gothic male character. In the fact it’s elusive, the mystery is very aloof, unsettling & full of allure. I will say it’s very slow… & there’s A-LOT of build up. The dual timelines are well written & fully transported me to past & presentWright evokes a deep sense of dread & foreboding throughout. The descriptions of the castle visual & knife sharp. This was heaven to my gothic loving heart.I had my issues with how at times Daisy & Cleo were written. Also there are some things with the plot that don’t make sense & aren’t well thought out in my opinion but I still recommend it. Up until the conclusion it would have been 4 stars.
