5.0 out of 5 stars Clear, thorough, well-illustrated. Highly recommended.
This book looked too advanced for my 10 year old (maybe it isn't) but I read it with my 13 year old son. The lay-out and illustrations make this a good choice for younger teens, colorful pictures and small subject-boxes for related topics on each page make it interesting to look at, unlike the straight text of books intended for older teens. This book kept my ADHD son's attention very well, sparked questions for discussion, and offered all of the information (and more) that he was looking for. We were able to discuss embarrassing subjects objectively and discreetly with this book. The game-plan is to use "What's going on down there" as the next step, but this was a good starting point for my son. This book will be kept on hand for use with my younger children when they are old enough for it.

Great book for kids
I was given a copy of the original book many years ago, and used it with my own children. It did the job, despite several embarrassed little faces! I recently bought this updated copy for my friend’s children. I think it continues to explain simply and perfectly ‘growing up’ with simplistic pictures. A small chapter at a time is sufficient for young minds. I was surprised by a few reviews—that the book is too much for 10 year olds. The children are getting this information in class, in Junior schools at that age anyway, and it is better for the parents or carers to give their own children the facts of life in a one to one situation, rather than receive misinformation in the playground! Would certainly recommend.
A good start to teenage sex education
This book is quite basic and to the point and deals with the mechanics rather than the emotional side of growing up. As a father not living permanently with his daughter, it was useful to be able to at least start with the basics with my just turned 13 year old daughter, given this was not something her Mum wanted to do. We went through 8 pages a night together and it took us 7 nights to complete over a ten day period. I read the book whilst my teenage child listened and we paused after every two pages for questions to be asked and answered. You will need to follow this up with whatever blanks your child has after you go through this with him/her. Naturally most children actually do not understand that the changes going on in their bodies are primarily to prepare them for having children. The act of sex is very, very brief in this book and it needed more emphasis that this is the point whereupon pregnancy or disease can enter the equation. Overall a good start and I would recommend this book to responsible parents looking to introduce the topic of what growing up means and what the changes going through their bodies represent and a brief introduction to the opposite sex and their bodies.
Good for tweens
Right level of information for late primary school-aged children
Sensitive and Informative
This is perfect for adolescents; the book covers a range of subjects sensitively yet in great detail, and is easy to understand. After having 'The Talk' I gave each of my children this book so that they could dip in and out of it whenever they wanted to, and in the privacy of their own room. Occasionally one of my children comes to me with a query, and this book helps support our conversation. The diagrams are as detailed as the text, which I personally have no issue with, however it may be something to bear in mind if you are buying this for a young child.
