First time for me and second time for a good friend. It is the best and most comprehensive landscaping book I have ever read, that is I am an amateur gardener, not a professional landscaper. However, I have brought and read many many books about plants and garden design, so I feel like I can give a good overall review about this category of books. I learned a ton from this book and continually learning from it. Aside from that it teaches you a great value of landscaping knowledge and a set of garden design principles , it by itself is a beautiful coffee table book with amazing pictures and colors. Overall a great value!

So useful, so much great information, BUT not too densely packed and thrown at you. Instead it's broken down into wonderful sections within sections so it's easier to digest. There are so many wonderful pictures to help illustrate the points of each section as well. Really, you could have it as a coffee table book and it will be 1000 times more useful than any coffee table book! I had to buy a $186 landscape architecture book for a class and this book is so much more useful to me. It briefly touches on the drawing aspect, the rest is theory and principles (1/3), garden styles (1/3) then plants, materials, and resources (1/3). I think it's great for professional designers but also for interested homeowners, AND it's a great supplement for the aspiring architects out there.
