I own a previous edition of this book, and bought this volume for a friend who loves military history. From what I skimmed before I wrapped it, this appears to be a great update expanding much further into the early history of flight and the developements in the field since the last edition was written. The content is well researched, the images are beatiful and writing style is analytical yet entertaining. I highly recommend this book for any aviation enthusiast or even history enthusiasts interested in this niche part of human development. It's a beatiful and authentic way to see how flight as advanced and evolved over the 120+ years since it was inventedThat said, this edition has a different graphic style than the previous ones, and I can't say it works that well for me. In the copy I owned several spread images that took up entire pages, and neat image-collage banner on this page. This edition squares off most of the spread images, replaces several of the artistic elements with clean colored lines, and the fonts are now all sans-serif. It won't ruin the experience by any means, but I think these choices make the book feel less grandious. Flight is one of humanity's most impressive achievements, the old style conveyed that better.

Nicely illustrated and well written history book.Heavyweight book did not have enough cushion in packaging leaving the 3 corners pretty banged up and dented and ugly. Way to ruin a really nice looking book.

I bought this book for a friend who’s an aviation fan. It’s beautifully laid out in glossy color and completely full of fascinating information in a well constructed time line. I got this on sale at an unbelievable price. It’s worth the full market value.

I love sitting back and picking something out of this book at random. It is without doubt the most comprehensive single tome on the subject I have ever encountered. If you are thinking of buying something for the aviation fan in your life get this book, they will thank you forever
