From the very first page of this book, I knew this was what I was looking for. I teach jazz vocal styles at a university. It is sometimes a challenge trying to express to new students the importance of how to be expressive in singing jazz. This book breaks it down in revealing the many expressions, such as interpreting if the lyrcis are informative, poetic, etc. This book is for the serious jazz vocalist that really would like to learn how to sing, how to express the lyrics, how to become one with the song and how to draw an audience into a world of unforgettable and intimate singing.

A vocalist dream. This is an excellent book for singers. It explains all the inflections of the voice as an instrument. It also has many jazz standards that a serious jazz singer should know. A great find, highly recommend it. 👍🏽

This handbook really is the strong Foundation that a jazz singer who's just beginning really needs. This is a well-done source of information. I recommend it for anyone who is beginning or even in the intermediate stages of development the singing jazz.

this book is so good. I have been singing for years and the exercises are great, plus she gives a lot of good points. This is not a beginners book, but more for the moderate level student.

Easy to read and understand...all the basics one needs to know. The chapter on writing charts and creating basic arrangements is extremely helpful! I am going to use this as a required text for my beginning vocal jazz students.

Excellent tool for teaching song interpretation in jazz.
I'm loving working my way through this book. It's full of useful progressive lessons in not just singing the music and words but transferable skills in song interpretation and getting the true emotion of the song across to an audience, with the addition of a backing track to practice.
