I’m so glad they still offer a printed encyclopedia. My youngest is “Gen Alpha” and he thinks these books are beautiful. They give him a chance to practice looking things up. There are color photos, charts and graphs. It will be nice to have text that can’t be altered in the future.

This set very much reminds me of the encyclopedias of my youth. The paper, binding and printing quality are very similar to that of many textbooks. The photos and illustrations sometimes look a touch dated, but they don't prevent understanding. Yes there are many articles, but most of them are very short. The famous Lake Tahoe at the California/Nevada border gets one paragraph, as do many other places and topics.The cost of this set, however, is extraordinarily high at almost sixty bucks per volume. I guess that is because of the low production volumes, but still, ouch.Printed in Malaysia on good, but not heirloom, quality paper. The binding and cover is again very middle school textbook looking. For people who don't have easy access to the internet this is a great resource. It is also wonderful for old school "browsing" or "surfing". You can learn all manner of things with this set.We are glad to have this but are also glad that we are only on the hook for the taxes as it was provided at no direct cost to us for evaluation.

Okay, look. This is a book set, but it's also an art and entertainment piece. Everyone who sees it on my book shelf when they walk into my house are stunned, and they immediately open up a volume to a random entry. People have been looking up venereal diseases, obscure wars, religious sites - if you can imagine it, it's in this giant set. I had to use a dolly to bring this thing into my house, because each individual book is hefty by itself, but the full set is massive.So I’ve had this encyclopedia set on my shelf for a few weeks now and it’s been a cool thing to have around. The hardcover volumes look sharp all lined up, give my space a bit of a classic vibe. It’s packed with info, way more than I’d ever get through in one go, but it’s nice to flip through when I’m curious about something random. The pages feel solid, not flimsy, and it’s laid out in a way that’s easy to skim or dive into. I’ve used it a few times just to look stuff up for fun, and it’s been handy having it right there instead of scrolling online. It’s a hefty collection, but I’d say it’s a good grab if you’re into having a big, trusty reference set at home.I can't imagine EVER getting through this, EVER. If a solar flare burns out all the computer chips or we have a prolonged energy crisis, at least I'll be entertained. Owning this is essentially... a practical novelty.
