Vefa Alexiadou was the leading authority on Greek cookery. A bestselling author of thirteen cookbooks in Greece, she also had her own television series and regularly wrote articles for magazines and gave lectures and demonstrations on Greek recipes. She served on the board of the Centre for the Preservation of Traditional Greek Gastronomy.

The media could not be loaded. One of my favorite cookbooks! I’m not Greek but every single recipe I’ve made from this has been a hit. Plus it’s a beautiful cookbook!

I bought this as a gift for my son. It is a very large and well put together cookbook. High quality photos of the recipes. If you enjoy cooking Greek food, this is a must have! With the amount of recipes included, I can’t imagine anything has been left out.

I really like this cookbook. I've tried a couple of the recipes and they turned out great. The one slight flaw is that some recipes deserve an illustration or two on the technique used instead of just a verbal description. For instance I made Manti which are little dumping made with pasta dough and I had to use Youtube to see how to fold them.

Just bought this as a mother's day gift so my mom and I can make some of the dishes from her childhood. She loved looking through it -- it awakened so many memories of her childhood and we have a whole list of things to make! So far, the pork dish we made tasted amazing!

This is a great cook book which has beautifully arranged images of the dishes you will be cooking. Recipes span across various Greek regions. I was pleasantly surprised to find recipes from my area Peloponnesus and island recipes, recipes from Thraki etc. Great value, love the cover as well.

Prachtig boek, slechte verzending
We vonden dit een prachtig boek met interessante recepten. Helaas is hij langs alle kanten geschonden geraakt tijdens de verzending.
The only book you could possibly need
This book is clearly the authors life works. Ive spent the whole evening browsing through it. It's weighty, with extensive sections on each category of food. Greek food it is essence is quite simple for most cooks it's all doable. There are for a lot of British cooks some ingredients are not easy to find, like pluck, wild greens, snails, veal ( spinach etc could be used I guess for some greens). However, this book is so extensive the inclusion of these recipes isn't a problem, it's a tiny proportion. Not every recipe has a photo illustration. Again for me this wasn't a problem. You can always use Google, or your cooks imagination. This book is like a bible of greek cooking. Impossible to illustrate everything.I think the best way is to sit back relax, browse and start picking out a recipe go from there. For example extensive chapters for each: vegetable dishes, pasta, legumes, soups, meze, etc etc.I'm going to use this book to increase the Mediterranean style cooking. The author seems to be the Mary Berry of greek cooking, she is famous and respected.Vast majority of the recipe ingredients can be found in any UK supermarket.You will certainly eat more veggies and pulses, lentils etc.If could only have one cook book this would be it.
A gateway to Greece
Phaidon cookbooks are amazing. I have 10 of them. Well written, well printed, sturdily bound, and tastefully illustrated. These cookbooks are doorways to the cuisine contained within. You get an overview of the country, and how its climate and resources affect its cuisine. The Greece cookbook has menus submitted by famous Greek chefs, so you can have the restaurant experience in your home. For the price of one meal in a Greek restaurant, you have the opportunity to have Greek food whenever you want. In these uncertain times, that’s an excellent deal. I highly recommend this cookbook.
