I bought several small space gardening books and this one is by far the most useful (especially for a beginner like me). I appreciated the structure of the book, the photos, the lists of plants, and the flow of one topic to the next. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book

This was exactly what I was looking for! He talks about planning the space, the plants, the pathways, and most importantly - talks about rules and principles. It's much better than just a book of ideas: it's a guide. Worth every penny for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice and somewhat informative picture book

J.W. · September 22, 2019

A good starting point for learning and developing an eye for putting together a small garden but not sufficient for real planning. It puts one in a position to start targeted googling. Some of the notions on laying out a small garden were useful when thinking about drawing up a planting grid for layering and color.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous and practical book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for my garden

Disappointed. This book is loaded with helpful info if you live in England. The sellers description did not mention that the book was written for the British environment. Much of the "How To" does not apply to my Pennsylvania eco system but the photos provided beautiful visual examples on arranging patio pots and adding structures to patios or decks. I don't like wasting time and money when the seller isn't forthcoming of their products. I do not recommend this book for the USA.

Brilliant, inspirational and a lovely, relaxing read

Right from the first moment it's just been brilliant - one of those books that is actually exciting to read, just because it is so damn good! Packed with beautiful pictures and informative text, where the author's love and enthusiasm shines out of it, generous, encouraging and full of ideas. I absolutely love plants and gardens, but I've never had the opportunity to have my own garden till now. So I have lots of ideas about what i like, but absolutely no idea how to create a garden from nothing, and this book is honestly one of the most lovely of reads, and has given me loads of ideas and practical instruction presented in a very accessible way, which unlike others i have read are genuinely 'do-able' in a small English garden. In my opinion it's a classic. I can't imagine how anyone would ever be disappointed, it's an investment!

Nice gift

Consigliatissimo.

Addicted to buying gardening books and this gem is the best one I've found on creating a new garden. It covers all aspects and recommends suitable plants. The gardens style is contemporary, however leaves scope for a multitude of styles. The writing style is friendly and encouraging; lovely photos of inspiring gardens. Genuinely for small gardens, unlike so many where they suppose a small garden is the size of a football pitch!

Excellent book. Very informative and to the point.
