Three Young Pilgrims

Description:

In these richly detailed pages, you'll meet three of the young Pilgrims who sailed on the Mayflower, Bartholomew, Remember, and Mary Allerton.

When Bartholemew, Remember, and Mary Allerton and their parents first step down from the
Mayflower after sixty days at sea, they never dream that life in the New World will be so hard. Many in their Plymouth colony won't make it through the winter, and the colony's first harvest is possible only with the help of two friends, Samoset and Squanto.

Richly detailed paintings show how the pilgrims lived after landing at Plymouth, through the dark winter and into the busy days of spring, summer, and fall. Culminating with the excitement of the original Thanksgiving feast,
Three Young Pilgrims makes history come alive.

We loved this story! Great for Thanksgiving season!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Thanksgiving Book

J.U. · January 10, 2022

My sister introduced me to this book as it is about one of my 9th Great Grandmothers (Remember Allerton) and her family who came to America on the Mayflower. It tells in detail about the pilgrims who came and how they built their lives in the New World, as well as the Indians who helped them. It is very detailed with historical references as well as telling what life was like then. I highly recommend it for older children due to the length of words on the page and the understanding needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite A Story

This is quite a good book about the Pilgrim experience from a child's perspective. The illustrations are very good - and some so detailed and informative. I loved sharing it with my children and grandchildren around Thanksgiving. It is touching to me to realize just what price they paid to go where they were free to worship God as they chose.

5.0 out of 5 stars My ancestors

After doing some ancestry research I discovered some relatives through dna that led me back to Remember. She is my 9th great grandmother. I’ll enjoy reading this to my girls this Thanksgiving.

5.0 out of 5 stars Educational and beautiful

The art is beautiful, the story is very informative with little snippets of details of the pilgrim journey all through out. Their journey was a hard one so there are sad parts to this story, but it’s real life.

4.0 out of 5 stars True story well told

D.m. · November 6, 2018

I appreciate that the author chose to tell the true story of childre who were actually on the Mayflower, rather than making one up as others have done. My only complaint is that in her division of Saints and Strangers, she made a few mistakes. I was searching among the "Saints" for the Chiltons, from whom I am descended, so I could show my children, yet I couldn't find them until I turned the page to the picture of the "Strangers." (Evidence clearly shows the Chiltons living in Leyden, Holland with the Separatist congregation.) It's a minor detail, to be sure, but I thought it was unfortunate to have such a mistake in what appears to be a fairly well-researched book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story based on three children that came on the Mayflower.

K.C. · January 3, 2014

This is an amazing story about on the real story of Remember, Mary and Bartholomew Allerton. These children had traveled on the Mayflower with their parents in 1620. The story follows the children's lives during their first year in Plimoth (the original spelling). The illustrations are worthy of framing. The extra information illustrated on the borders of the pages add so much information. This book became my primary book for introducing life in Plimoth. One of the best books about the Pilgrim story.

The story of the pilgrims and the mayflower is quite amazing. I am especially interested in this book because of Remember Allerton, who is my 10th great grandmother.

Lovely Book.

This is a wonderful book for children to learn about the Mayflower and actual conditions that the Pilgrims endured in immigrating to the US. The illustrations are beautiful. Highly recommend.
