4.0 out of 5 stars AN INTERESTING TWIST ON POST-BREAK-UP LIFE...
Two exes wake up together with wedding bands on their fingers—and no idea how they got there. They have just one New Year’s Eve at the end of 1999 to figure it out in this big-hearted and nostalgic rom-com from New York Times bestselling author Allison Winn Scotch. When college sweethearts Frankie and Ezra broke up before graduation, they vowed to never speak to each other again. Ten years later, on the eve of the new millennium, they find themselves back on their snowy, picturesque New England campus together for the first time for the wedding of mutual friends. Frankie’s on the rise as a music manager for the hottest bands of the late ’90s, and Ezra’s ready to propose to his girlfriend after the wedding. Everything is going to plan—they just have to avoid the chasm of emotions brought up when they inevitably come face to face. But when they wake up in bed next to each other the following morning with Ezra’s grandmother’s diamond on Frankie’s finger, they have zero memory of how they got there—or about any of the events that transpired the night before. Now Frankie and Ezra have to put aside old grievances in order to figure out what happened, what didn’t happen…and to ask themselves the most troubling question of all: what if they both got it wrong the first time around? My Thoughts:The Rewind takes us back to Y-2K and the start of the New Millennium. Ten years after their relationship ended and their lives go in different directions, Ezra and Frankie are thrown together at the wedding of two old friends.Did they accidentally get married while drunk and reliving the past? Are they about to renew their lives together in a strange twist of their circumstances? Most of the story takes us back and forth to the past while trying to understand what has happened in the present. As we follow their journey, we are not sure how it will all unfold, but we’re pretty caught up in rooting for them. An enjoyable romance that takes a new look at how to start over again. 4.5 stars.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great revisit to the 90s
This is my favorite book by Allison Winn Scotch! Frankie and Ezra are wonderfully imperfect people to go back to the 80s and 90s with. They dated in college, but broke up two weeks before graduation. It's ten years later and they haven't spoken, but find themselves at the wedding of mutual friends. They're determined to continue avoiding each other, except they wake up in a dorm room wearing wedding rings and no recollection of how they got there. The story follows them as they attempt to retrace their steps to figure out if they really are married and if so how they got to that point.Scotch does a seamless job of moving between the past and present in the story. I had all of the nostalgic feels for those time periods. Definitely a great read for anyone but especially Gen X!
3.0 out of 5 stars Ehh.
I felt this book dragged on WAY more than it should have. It did have a few good parts in it, and I do love a good romance novel. This wasn't my cup of tea though.
4.0 out of 5 stars Got the new year's theme right
I liked this a lot! Cute read and the characters were pretty likable. However, i felt like there were too many details leading up to the end and it was a tad confusing with past vs present vs 10 years ago all in the same chapters. Would’ve benefited from maybe italics or bold for the flashbacks. The ending felt way too fast with them literally hating each others guts and then two hours passes and they’re just like meh let’s try again
5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Premise
Interesting characters, fun dialogue and a very creative premise to the age-old question: if we could do it over would we? Would there be a different ending? Loved the plot and character twists. Very enjoyable!
3.0 out of 5 stars cute sentimental love story
I loved getting both Ezra and Frankie’s perspective throughout this redemption/love story. The plot was fun and their romance believable. I’ll definitely recommend this to my romance book friends!
2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I wanted to like this but I could never get into it. The characters were not engaging or particularly likable and the story dragged. It had such potential but just fell flat to me. And the writer has a habit of referring to the main characters by their first and last names every fifth or sixth time and that got really annoying. Sorry to say it, but this one’s not worth the time.
4.0 out of 5 stars Right back to 1999
Reunited exes in forced proximity college romance first loves and friend family all together. It was a sweet story. I wish there was a playlist.
