“Andrea Rangel’s AlterKnit is what helped me get started in colorwork, and KnitOvation is what makes me love colorwork. The designs are fun and make you think of taking sweaters in an entirely new direction. Her writing and observations take the guesswork out of designs and make colorwork less scary and more exciting.” —Dana Williams-Johnson, Yards of Happiness
“KnitOvation is just as much fun and whimsical as it is informative and inventive. Would recommend to knitters of all levels!” —Candice English, The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers
“Andrea’s fresh take on colorwork motifs is just the thing to inspire color play in your knitting. But what I love most is that she doesn't stop there—she goes the extra mile in KnitOvation to chat all about yarn choices and how it will impact your colorwork, including fiber content, yarn construction, and how the yarn was dyed. What a treasure!” —Andrea Mowry, knitwear designer, Drea Renee Knits
“KnitOvation is a thorough guide to colorwork that is also sure to ignite a creative spark in knitters of all experience levels.” —Amanda Milne & Fiona McLean, Knit Social
“KnitOvation is a must-have resource for any knitter who loves to create their own unique colorwork pieces. From the innovative charts and beautiful patterns to tips and tricks on yarn choices and techniques, this is a book that inspires knitters’ imaginations.” —Tracie Millar & Jodi Brown, The Grocery Girls
“Andrea is a designer who is dear to my heart for many reasons. As you will discover with this book, the ability to spark your creativity and give you the blueprint you need to express yourself is an integral part of her contribution to the knitting world. Explore all the stitch patterns and have fun adding them to your favorite knitted garments!” —Julie Asselin, Julie Asselin Yarns
“KnitOvation will captivate your imagination with 150 contemporary motifs arranged as all-over patterns—but easy to use on their own. Andrea will show you how! KnitOvation includes an informative section on yarn choice with knitted examples, a techniques section with excellent line drawings, and a thorough discussion on adding motifs to your own knitting projects. Stunning life-size photographs seal the deal; this book is a gem!” —Mary Jane Mucklestone, knitwear designer & author
“Another glorious selection of colorwork stitch patterns from the very clever and fun minds of Andrea Rangel and her designing-partner husband. But this book goes much further: just as valuable is the discussion of different yarn fiber and colorings and how they work with colorwork patterning. Plus, there’s a handful of charming projects and guidance from Andrea on how to adapt them with your own choice of patterns and colors.” —Kate Atherley, knitwear designer & author
“Andrea has written an invaluable and trustworthy resource that both sparks a knitter’s imagination and demystifies knitting modern colorwork motifs. KnitOvation guides you through choosing the right yarn for colorwork as well as how to incorporate the motifs into patterns ‘you’ create. It brings a fresh joy to any knitter’s library and really, who can say no to feeling inspired by such a wonderful book filled with motifs to satisfy any whim!” —Shannon Cook, knitwear designer & author
“KnitOvation is helpful, clever, interesting, inspiring, and more. The clear and simple charts cover every category you could think of and many you would never have imagined. It’s a fun and exciting book, a must-have for every knitter’s reference library. I can’t wait to cast on!” —Susan B. Anderson, Barrett Wool Co., knitter & author
“Andrea’s second book of knitted motifs is as charming as it is useful! The stitch patterns in KnitOvation are accessible, clear, and best of all—they have a sense of humor. A delightful addition to every colorwork knitter’s library!” —Meghan Fernandes, co-founder & creative director, Pom Pom Quarterly
“From the elegant to the eccentric, from the simple to the silly, there is a motif here to inspire every knitter. Of course, you’ll find a lovely array of nature-inspired designs, but it’s not every stitchionary that features rubber duckies or a magic 8 balls. Need a hat idea for your New York City friend? Look no further than the rat motif! Andrea also includes a wealth of practical tips to help knitters pick out the right yarn, master techniques, and even provides design inspiration.” —Patty Lyons, knitwear designer & author

5.0 out of 5 stars A Creative Companion for Neurodivergent Makers
I absolutely love this book! It’s full of fun, adorable colorwork designs that you don’t often see in traditional knitting books. One of my favorite parts is how it shows how different fibers and colorway types look in colorwork—so helpful for planning projects! As someone with dyslexia, dyscalculia, and Irlen Syndrome, I truly appreciate how the writing in this book is clear, detailed, and easy to follow. The patterns are laid out in a way that supports my learning instead of overwhelming or confusing my brain—so instead of getting frustrated, I actually enjoy the process of creating. I especially love that each design includes a visual reference and videos on YouTube, which makes such a difference. These are something I often find missing in knitting, crochet, and sewing patterns; many designers unintentionally overlook accessibility for those of us with learning differences. But this book and designer really gets it right. The “design recipe” section is also amazing—it helps you build your own unique pieces, step by step. And the pattern templates at the back make it so easy to apply everything to whatever garment you’re working on.This book is a gem for both inspiration and accessibility!
5.0 out of 5 stars Love it
Love this book so much. I have only made a few of the swatches and the charts are easy to follow.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great!
Made a cowl using the flames pattern. Great pattern. Definitely recommend!
5.0 out of 5 stars If you're thinking about getting this, get it!
I should have bought this book sooner! If you need to peak before buying, you can on YouTube, but seriously if you're looking at knit books and thinking about getting it, you can feel confident this is the one and get it. You won't regret this one. I got this one and hooktinary, which I love both, but this is by far my favorite out of any knit, crochet or weaving book I've bought so far. So much more than I expected and it's big.
5.0 out of 5 stars For knitters
Very good and full of creativity. All knitters should have it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book. Well worth it!
Great book with great patterns!
5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile, whimsical reference
There's a great mix of geometry and whimsy in the designs. Love that the index is broken down by stich repeat, to make substituting a motif into an existing pattern a breeze
Tolle Muster
Honestly lovely
This book is so perfect for colour work. Yes if you’re a beginner it is a little ambitious in places but there is a range of levels accommodated. I would say the only negative is the lack of differentiation between English throwing and continental knitting (colour work is so much easier in continental) but English throwing tips would be appreciated. That said, this is a design book, not a tutorial book and it hits all the right spots as a design book. Really well thought through, very enjoyable with endless possibilities
