As a parent of a vehicle-obsessed 3-year-old, I was thrilled to find this Little Golden Book. It’s a concise yet surprisingly detailed introduction to construction equipment, covering essentials like bulldozers, cranes, and cement mixers. Each page pairs vivid, retro-style illustrations by Paul Boston with clear, factual descriptions that teach without overwhelming young readers. My son loves pointing out the excavator’s “big arm” and now knows terms like “hydraulic” thanks to the book’s simple explanations. The hardcover is tough enough to withstand daily use, and at 24 pages, it’s perfect for short attention spans. My only gripe is that some pages pack multiple vehicles without labeling each one directly, which can confuse early learners.

My son (3) is obsessed with construction vehicles and this instantly became one of his favorites. We read it on a weekly basis, and now he has the names of all of construction vehicles memorised. If we see one when we are out and about, he will tell me the name of it right away. I also love the classic look of the pictures. It's nothing flashy or over stimulating. Just real colors. It always annoys me when picture books show objects in unnatural colors.

My 7-year-old niece and 5-year-old nephew love this book. They love how the machinery is from a time when Grandpa was a boy, and will even bring up how this machine or that is different today. The book is a little older, but it remains an excellent choice for children.

Packed with information and details on various construction vehicles, this book is more suitable for older kids who can read. Whilst a tad wordy, the colourful illustrations nevertheless will appeal to younger kids. A good buy for kids who love construction vehicles.
