This book is just plain awesome; taking you from total noob, where everyone in your clan is dogging you, to somewhat knowledgeable in no time. It won't show you how to actually install a system yourself; however, if you bought the book, you should'nt be installing one yourself anyways, unless your exceptionally good with electronics, in which case you should buy one dedicated just for that area. For the rest of us, this book will have you running small circles around the 17 year old kid working in the audio department at best buy covering for the other guy who called in sick who was supposed to cover for the other guy who called in sick, and so on and so forth. Buy the book or you'll get robbed by someone trying to sell you what you don't need. The paragraph under the headline "the diminishing returns of increased power" alone saved me hundreds.

I thought this book was helpful for anyone who wants to upgrade their car audio and has little or no experience. I appreciated using this as a resource.

I read cover to cover and was told a whole lot of background and educated on terms and buzz words, it did not however tell me how to, which is what I am used to from the "for dummies" series. I learned to and became a bee keeper from that book. I can not say the same for this one, 3 stars for the attempt. I returned the book, watched a lot of YouTube and did just fine.

This is a good overview of car audio, and I especially appreciated the general rules of thumb the author shares, like wire gauges and power requirements. For an intro, he occasionally gets a little too technical, like when he's discussing how to bridge subwoofer inputs. Also, it needs to be updated! This edition came out over 10 years ago.Still, the insight I gained allowed me to draw up the attached audio strategy diagram with FAR more confidence than I otherwise would have had.

Bought this book just to check it out. It is really only good for rookies. My knowledge far surpasses this book but was good for reinforcing what you already know. For someone just starting the car audio experience this will take you thru the basics and everyone needs to start some where.For the novice I would highly recommend buying this book!

With this book, i solely installed an LCD double din stereo in my car and an amp to go with it, saved me hundreds on installation bills
True to the title.
Makes for interesting reading and not at all difficult to follow. Can be used for reference as it appears to be reasonably up to date I think.
A good strating point
Not bad if you don't have any idea about hifi system, but it's basic, in some parts very superficial. Should have more details!

needed to hook up the aux jack on my used car stereo - it wasn't hellpful. information presented was interesting so the book wasn't a total waste.
